Quiet Pleasures on Crystal Lake

May 31, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Fisherman, Fishing, Gate 3, Gate 7, Rowing, Walk to Emmaus

Yesterday about 7:20 I drove on Lakewood’s South Shore Drive to Andy’s Family Restaurant for my Walk to Emmaus reunion group.

I saw women practicing rowing on the quiet waters off of Beach 7.

Off Gate 3 Beach were two fishermen casting.

Two reasons besides the water itself I like living near Crystal Lake.

Men’s and women’s Walks to Emmaus are coming up. There are basically short courses in Christianity. They run from Thursday night to late Sunday afternoon.

In Barrington a Men’s Walk will be held June 11-14 and a Women’s Walk June 18-21.

In Plano there will be a Men’s Walk from Sept. 17-20, followed by a Women’s Walk from October 1-4.

Drop me a line, if you are interested. The email button is on the lower right hand side of the page.

Fishermen on Crystal Lake

March 14, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake Main Beach, Fisherman, Fishing, Main Beach

I don’t know if there were the same fishermen I saw earlier in the day, but there were certainly fishing about 2:15 in the afternoon.

They are out from Crystal Lake Main’s Beach.

They might have been fishing in an ice floe three days ago.

Message of the Day – A Fisherman

April 21, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Algonquin, Algonquin Dam, Cornish Park, Fisherman, Message of the Day

This fisherman in Cornish Park at Crystal Creek where it enters the Fox River caught a big one before I talked to him and took this picture.

He knew he had hooked something significant.

But the rod was just too light.

I asked if it might have been a big catfish.

He thought it could have been a northern pike.

Never can tell with the river so high.

Like any good fisherman, though, he didn’t give up.

I went to take some pictures of the river and the dam at Algonquin from Route 62 and on the way back saw his reflection in the creek and took this photo.

“Will my picture be in the newspaper?” he asked.

I burst his bubble by introducing myself and telling him I had a “Message of the Day” on my blog and had used fishermen before.

He wasn’t the only one on the Fox.

That’s for sure.

Message of the Day – Fishing

April 15, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Fisherman, Fishing, Main Beach, Message of the Day

Taken last Monday, April 7th, this picture shows a man fishing from the Crystal Lake Park District’s Main Beach.

He wasn’t the only one out admiring the newly liquid lake.

The ice was completely gone on April 3rd, I think.

The Lone Fisherman

August 23, 2007 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Fisherman, Fishing, Main Beach

From this picture taken at dusk August 16th you would think that only one fisherman was out on Crystal Lake.

Untrue.

He was the only one near Crystal Lake’s Main Beach, but there were many other boats out on the lake farther west on the mile and fourth long lake.

My wife said the clouds are pinkish gray. I can see the gray. I’ll take her work for the pink part.
