No Need for Jesse to Flip

January 09, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Harry Reid, Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White, Jesse White Tumbler, Rod Blagojevich, Roland Burris, United States Senate

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White refused to sign Governor Rod Blagojevich’s appointment of paperwork for Roland Burris as United States Senate.

Now the Illinois Supreme Court has ruled that White’s signature is not needed.

White had maintained that his signature was not necessary.

So White won’t have to flip like one of his skilled tumblers.

The move is up to the United Senate now.

What will the weak Harry Reid do now?

Steam-Roland Burris

January 08, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Barack Obama, Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, John Kass, Roland Burris

New Year’s Day I suggested that President-Elect Barack Obama should quietly pass the word to the U.S. Senate Democratic Party leaders that they should seat Roland Burris before his Inauguration.

I figured that Black leaders would threaten demonstrations during the swearing in ceremony, if Burris had not yet taken office.

I was wrong.

On two counts.

As you can see from the front page column by John Kass in the Chicago Tribune today, there was nothing quiet about Obama’s advice.

And the meeting with Burris and Dick Durbin in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s Office was anything but secret.

And the influence of African-Americans within the Democratic Party no longer needs to rely on street demonstrations.

“Blagojeviched”

January 07, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bobby Rush, Dick Durbin, Harry Reid, Jesse White, Lisa Madigan, Mike Madigan, Pat Quinn, Rod Blagojevich, Roland Burris

I wish I could take credit for the headline, but that was State Rep. Mike Tryon’s description to what was happening to U.S. Senate Leader Harry Reid (Nevada) yesterday.

Fox News’ Brian Wilson observed after the Reid-Dick Durbin and Roland Burris press conferences,

“The fix is in.”

He seems to understand at least some of the terminology of Illinois politics.

In his press conference, the media acted as if Burris had won his fight to get in the U.S. Senate.

Later Wilson offered an unknowing description of “Blagojeviching:”

“What we have is two political systems that are colliding. All you need is a couple of trained ponies and you have a three-ring circus.”

Of course, there are more that two trained Illinois “ponies” in the arena.

Think Lisa Madigan, who now says Jesse White’s signature is not needed on Rod Blagojevich’s paper appointing Burris.

And, we haven’t even mentioned Mike Madigan or Pat Quinn or Dick Durbin.

And, it didn’t even take the demonstrations I suggested New Year’s Day on Barack Obama’s Inauguration Day.

It is obvious that the playing of the “race card” by Blagojevich and Congressman/former Black Panther Bobby Rush has been successful.

Senator Harry Reid Refers to Rod Blagojevich’s “Cloud”

January 04, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Danny Davis, Emil Jones, Harry Reid, Jesse Jackson Jr., Lisa Madigan, Rod Blagojevich, Roland Burris, Tammy Duckworth, U.S. Senate

You will remember that the day before Rod Blagojevich was arrested by the FBI, he let loose with this quote:

“I don’t believe there’s any cloud that hangs over me. I think there’s nothing but sunshine hanging over me.”

This morning on “Meet the Press” that cloud blew into sight…again.

The broadcast came on the heels of the Chicago Sun-Times publication of a front page article saying Reid had called Blagojevich offering advice on his U.S. Senate pick.

Before he got arrested and before he picked Roland Burris.

According to the New York Times, Reid said,

“This is part of Blagojevich’s cloud. He’s making all this up. For anyone to suggest anything racial, is part of the Blagojevich spin.”

What’s our governor supposedly making up?

The contents of this Chicago Sun-Times article, which says Reid told Blagojevich he didn’t want three black male politicians appointed to replace President-Elect Barack Obama (Senate President Emil Jones and Congressmen Danny Davis and Jesse Jackson, Jr.), but two while female politicians (Attorney General Lisa Madigan and former congressional candidate and now Illinois Veterans Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth) would be just fine.

If the sources of the article trace back to Blagojevich, as Reid claims, then it is another appeal to a potential black jury to vote acquittal at the trial following the expected April 7th indictment.

And, if you wonder where the cartoon chicken head of Blagojevich came from, here’s the answer.
