Message of the Day – In Your Face

April 11, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Auto Zone, Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake Public Works Department, Hydrant flushing, In your face, Joseph's Market, Message of the Day

More water.

Not squirting at my son protected by a car window this time.

Right in your face.

And, in my car, had I driven just a bit closer.

You’ve seen the

HYDRANT

THIS WEEK

signs, if you have driven around Crystal Lake recently.

But, do you know why the city public works department flushes them?

Take a look at the color of the water right after the flushing begins in the picture on the left.

All you probably see while flushing is occurring is the white water on the right after the rust or whatever is already in the street.

Quite a bit of gunk apparently gets flushed out of the water supply system.

All photos can be enlarged by clicking on them. These were taken near Auto Zone in front of Joseph’s Market Place.

Message of the Day – In Your Face

April 10, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Car Wash, In your face, Message of the Day, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church.

Last Saturday seemed like the first real day of spring.

The crocuses were out.

My son and I were heading back from Algonquin.

We were on McHenry Avenue when I saw a sign that said, “CAR WASH.”

Since the car was covered with winter grime,

“Why not?”

I thought.

My son protested.

He said his DS was running out of power.

What’s that?

I just had to ask the 10-year old.

It’s a Nintendo Dual Screen.

See.

I am still capable of learning.

He didn’t want to get out of the car.

It didn’t take a lot of encouragement to get the young man doing most of the work to squirt the hose on my son’s face.

He likes that even when he is in the house and I’m watering flowers.

Prince of Peace Lutheran Church was the location of the car wash, but it wasn’t the youth group holding it. The church’s youth leader suggested holding the car wash on a Sunday in the future, when cars would be plentiful.
