Jeff Thirtyacre’s Write-in Attempt Apparent Failure

March 21, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Barb Wheeler, Jeff Thirtyacre, Write-in

To get on the fall ballot as a write-in candidate a candidate has to get at least as many write-in votes as he or she would have to get signatures on a petition for the office in question.

The write-in votes counted by election judges for the Democratic Party nomination for State Representative.

I’m betting that the eleven write-in votes Jeff Thirtyacre received for the Democratic Party nomination to run against Republican Barb Wheeler will not meet that standard.

Jeff Thirtyace Promotes State Rep. Write-In Candidacy for Democratic Party Slot

March 14, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Jeff Thirtyacre, Write-in

The following was in a comment under McHenry County Blog’s write-in candidate story:

Jeff Thirtyacre at the Johnsburg Parade

I decided to run because I think the working class needs a Representative in Springfield. The rich have allot of reps there.

I am a Teamster and have been for 20 yrs our rights as workers should be first. We do the jobs the rich don’t want to. And they get all the tax breaks, this need to stop.

Everyday I’m reminded of it.

I’ve worked for the State of Illinois for 20yrs now and it gets Micromanaged more and more everyday.

When I started in 1992 we were talked to about allowing the State to borrow from our retirement to help with the deficit and that they would pay it back when they received the money from taxes and other income.

Well here we are 20 yrs later and i read our retirement is the problem with our state.

I put in 8.5% a pay check that includes overtime and They want to increase that to 13%, I’m only allowed 2.5%.

The politicians put in 11.25 % and get back 12% so where is the difference going?

Anyone can see that its not our retirement but the politicians that are making out on this deal.

They want to cut our kids education and things so they can give their Contract buddies back campaign funds they get during election time. Y

You wonder why the roads aren’t salted before a storm.

They are making cuts when it comes to peoples lives.

We don’t matter anymore just the bottom line.

They aren’t even paying our health insurance, but do you think theirs is payed?

I’m tired of getting bills from the hospital because the insurance company hasn’t received payment from my employer.

I’m tired of hearing its my fault there aren’t jobs.

The people in Springfield are the problem they aren’t doing their jobs.

I want to replace one so there will be someone down there willing to help the people and not themselves.

I hear everyday that you can’t change it.

I believe we can change it and the way to do this is vote out the ones responsible.

Write in Jeff Thirtyacre under State Representative 64th District.

We can make a difference.

Thirtyacre seeks to be on the ballot to face off against Republican Barb Wheeler this fall.

Dozen File to Run as Write-ins in McHenry County, including Obama Opponent

January 20, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Barbara Bovinet, Cynthia Allen Schenk, Dave Goss, Democratic Party, Democratic Party Precinct Committeeman, Don Drzal, Jeff Thirtyacre, John Joseph Polachek, Ken Poling, Mark Widhalm, McHenry County, Michael Clarke, Republican Policy Committee, Republican Precinct Committeeman, Richard S. Jackson, Sandra Bartholmey, Sharon Meroni

Jeff Thirtyacre

Below are the people who have filed to run write-in campaigns in McHenry County:

For public officer there are two Democrats:

  • John Joseph Polachek  – United States President [Polachek did not filed a copy, not an original document, so there will not be a write-in spot for President on the ballot]
  • Jeff S. Thirtyacre -  64th District Representative

Polackek isn’t local.  He is from Chicago.  The link to Thirtyacre has his background.  He will have to obtain 500 votes to appear on the fall ballot against Republican Barb Wheeler.

For Republican Precinct Committeeman, there are six:

Dave Goss

  • Cynthia Allen Schenk – Marengo 3
  • Michael Clarke – Chemung 3
  • Donald J. Drzal -  Grafton 18
  • Mark Widhalm – McHenry 3
  • David Goss – Algonquin 38
  • Sharon Ann Meroni – Algonquin 45
  • Kenneth Poling -  Algonquin 54

Cynthia Allen Schenk was an unsuccessful candidate for the Marengo Grade School Board last year.

Michael Clarke is a newly-elected Alderman in Harvard.  “I was the only city council member who voted against raising Harvard’s property tax levy,” he told me.

Donald J. Drzal is on Huntley’s District 158 School Board.  He was aligned with the Grafton Township Trustees at the Annual Meeting two years ago, I found when I ran a search of his name in past McHenry County Blog articles.

Mark Widhalm is running on the Ron Paul slate for Delegate to the National Convention.

Dave Goss is a former Crystal Lake City Councilman who now serves on the city’s Planning and Zoning Board.

Sharon Ann Meroni runs Defend the Vote, an organization that seems to be a lineal descendent of Operation LEAP (Legal Elections in All Precincts)  and filed an objection to President Barack Obama’s petitions.

Ken Poling was active in politics in Michigan before moving to Crystal Lake.

For Democratic Precinct Committeeman, there are three:

  • Robert S. Jackson – Dorr 8
  • Barbara Bovinet – McHenry 14
  • Sandra Bartholmey – Algonquin 10

Richard S. Jackson

Barbara Bovinet

Robert S. Jackson of Woodstock was an unsuccessful candidate for the McHenry County College Board
last year.

Change.org reports that Barbara Bovinet’s interests line in human rights and criminal justice from the petitions she has signed.

Democrat Jeff Thirtyacre Seeks Write-in Route to Run against Republican Barb Wheeler for State Representative

January 20, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Barb Wheeler, Barbara Wheeler, Jeff Thirtyacre, Write-in

Jeff Thirtyacre waves from his pickup at the 2010 Johnsburg Parade.

Spring Grove Democrat Jeff Thirtyacre has filed papers with the McHenry County Clerk’s Office to run as a write-in candidate for this party’s nomination for State Representative in the 64th District.

To win the write-in contest, he must get as many votes as signatures he would have to have gotten on petitions–500.

Thrityacre has run unsuccessfully for the McHenry County Board twice and Burton Township Road Commissioner.

He works for the Illinois Department of Transportation out of the Woodstock garage.

If he gets on the ballot, he will face off against McHenry County Board member Barb Wheeler, who is the Republican Party’s candidate.

I emailed him last night asking why he wanted the Democratic Party nomination, but have not gotten a reply.

Republicans Have Commanding Lead over Democrat Jeff Thirtyacre in District 4

Sandy Salgado and Pete Merkel are on the way to winning another term on the McHenry County Board.

No change is in the works for the county board district that runs from McHenry up to Richmond and Spring Grove.

Pete Merkel and Sandra Salgado are being re-elected.

Jeff Thirtyacre Disappears from Democratic Party Web Site

October 19, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Jeff Thirtyacre, McHenry County Board., McHenry County Democratic Central Committee, Scott Lee Cohen

Jeff Thirtyacre

It appears backing Independent Scott Lee Cohen over Democratic Party nominee Pat Quinn for Governor has consequences.

The name of District 4 County Board candidate Jeff Thirtyacre has disappeared from the McHenry County Democratic Party’s web site page listing local candidates, even though the heading says,

“This is a list of candidates for county offices for the November general election.”

Thirtyacre endorses Cohen in mid-August.

The wheels of party discipline apparently turn slowly in McHenry County.

Party discipline in the suburbs.

Personal PAC County Board Endorsement – An Amplification

October 01, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Dennis Palys, Donna Kurtrz, Endorsement, Jeff Thirtyacre, Mark Booras, McHenry County Board., Personal PAC, Tina Hill

The post I ran about pro-abortion Personal PAC’s endorsements for the McHenry County Board was incomplete. Instead of going to the Personal PAC endorsement page, I relied on the eVote web site. It is clearly unreliable, as I guess I should have figured out when Independent candidate for judge Sally Wiggins’ name was missing from the its list of candidates to be on McHenry County Ballots.

There were more county board members than the two county board candidates I mentioned earlier who endorsed by Personal PAC.

The only incumbent endorsed is Tina Hill (R-Woodstock).

Non-incumbents gaining the pro-choice group’s nod are

Two McHenry County Board members were endorsed by the pro-abortion Personal PAC.

They are District 2′s Donna Kurtz, a Republican, and District 5′s Jeff Thirtyacre, a Democrat.

The Politicians in the Johnsburg Saufen und Spiel Parade

September 12, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Boy Scout Troop 455, Bruce Bennett, Cub Scout Pack 455, Cub Scout Pack 916, Ed Hettermann, Jack Franks, Jeff Thirtyacre, Joe Walsh, John Hammerand, John O'Neill, Johnsburg, Johnsburg Marching Skyhawks, Keith Nygren, Lou Bianchi, Marge Nygren, Mary Lou Hutchinson, McHenry County Conservation District, McHenry County Conservation District Police, McHenry County Sheriff, McHenry County Sheriff's Department, Melissa Bean, Mike Mahon, Nick Provenzano, Parade, Pete Merkel, Sally Wiggins, Sandra Salgado, Saufen und Spiel, Sue Draffkorn

Keith Nygren and his wife Marge rode the parade route in this baby blue Cadillac convertible.

First among the politicians at the Johnsburg parade was McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

I only saw one motorcycle in Sheriff Keith Nygren's entourage.

Unlike other parades, there were not four motorcycles accompanying him.  Usually there are two from the Sheriff’s Department and two from the McHenry County Conservation District.

Marge Nygren throws a fistful of candy to the crowd.

As in Lake in the Hills, there didn’t see any rules against throwing candy.

The snowmobile trailer of the Sheriff's Department.

The only vehicles from the Sheriff’s Department I saw besides the motorcycle were the snowmobile trailer and van pulling it.

I wonder if the fewer employees on overtime was a result of county board members having asked for an overtime report for all departments when County Administrator was telling them that the county had budget problems.

Johnsburg village officials came after the Sheriff.

Village President Ed Hettermann was thowing candy, too.

First was President Ed Hettermann.

Village Trustees Bruce Bennett and Mary Lou Hutchinson.

Village Trustees Bruce Bennett and Mary Lou Hutchinson were in the next convertible.

The car for Trustees Harold May, Rick Quinn and John Huemann was next.

The sign says Trustees Rick Quinn, John Huemann and Harold May. Would someone please identify the two in the car?

Rounding out the village board members was a car carrying Karl Nitz and Ron Zanko.

Johnsburg Village Trustees Karl Nitz and Ron Zanko brought up the rear.

As an intermission among the politicians, the Johnsburg Marching Skyhawks appeared.

The Johnsburg Marching Skyhawks came into view.

Tubas and drums from the Johnsburg Marching Skyhawks.

The next politician was 8th District Congresswoman Melissa Bean.

These folks were coming so fast I didn’t have time to change from my long to my short lens, but I did get a shot of Melissa Bean reaching out to shake hands.

"Hi, I'm Melissa."

Right behind was State Rep. Jack Franks’ contingent.

The Jack Franks volunteers were passing out frozen sweet sticks.

There appeared to be two dogs for Franks.

Dogs for Franks.

State Rep. Jack Franks presses the flesh with a phalanx of McHenry County State's Attorney Lou Bianchi supporter in the background.

I paying so much attention to Franks that I almost missed the Mark Kirk for U.S. Senate group.

Mark Kirk had a group of supporters in the parade.

McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi and his supporters were next.

Lou Bianchi waved to the crowd and blew a whistle.

Although not up for election this year, Bianchi had the largest contingent of marchers.

Lou Bianchi was wearing a red shirt, his supporters blue.

With Sunday newspapers headlining people reacting to whether he should step down after his indictment for campaigning using county resources, he received applause from some folks I was standing near.

There were forty to fifty supporters rallying around the State's Attorney in Johnsburg.

I didn’t hear anyone shouting, “Resign!”

Brent Smith was leader of those walking to support Sheriff Keith Nygren's re-election effort.

Those supporting Sheriff Keith Nygren came next.  You see leader Brent Smith, who was putting campaign stickers on bystanders.  Behind him you see Associate Judge Gordon Graham and McHenry County Clerk Kathie Schultz in a convertible.

Assciiate Judge Gordon Graham, who is running for Circuit Judge, rides in a convertible with County Clerk Katherine Schultz.

McHenry County Board member Sue Draffkorn was in the next convertible, waving to the crowd.

Sue Draffkorn was waving to the crowd.

Next was McHenry County Board member John Hammerand in a little red convertible.

John Hammerand

Democratic Party challenger Jeff Thirtyacre was driving a pick-up truck and waving to the crowd.

Jeff Thirtyacre.

Right behind his red truck was the truck carrying the Republican County Board members Thirtyacre hopes to unseat.

Even though Johnsburg showed some signs of having Green Bay Packer supporters, Pete Merkel and Sandra Salgado's entry sported a Chicago Bears flag.

Pete Merkel and Sandy Salgado rode in the rear.

Sitting "backwards in the back" (with apologies to singer Alan Root, who wrote a kids song by that name) were McHenry County Board members Pete Merkel and Sandra Salgado.

Right behind was the contingent supporting Democratic Party challenger to Sheriff Keith Nygren, Mike Mahon.

The Mike Mahon float was right behind the Republican County Board members.

It sported a big sign on the side saying, “Mike Mahon for Full-Time Sheriff.”

Mike Mahon walked the parade route.

Mike Mahon shook hand along the parade route.

Behind Mahon was Independent candidate for Circuit Court Judge in McHenry County, Sally Wiggins.

Sally Wiggins at the Johnsburg parade. She graduated from Johnsburg High School.

Was she wearing high heels?  I can’t tell you because I didn’t get a photo from far enough back.

Sally Wiggins supporters.

Her supporters were carrying her yard sign touting her independence and maiden name, Oeffling.

The Joe Walsh for Congress marchers were next.

Joe Walsh

The always enthusiastic Walsh even greeted the parade judges.

A regular part of a Joe Walsh appearance is his "Lete's take our county back" horse trailer, which he invites people to sign.

After the Joe Walsh entry, came a banner for Republican candidate for Governor, Bill Brady.

Holding one end of the Bill Brady for Governor banner was McHenry County Board candidate Nick Provenzano.

The next group was Jack Franks’ challenger, McHenry Grade School and Library District member John O’Neill.

Republican candidate for State Representative against Jack Franks John O'Neill told people, "I hope I can earn your support."

For each parade entry the announcers seemed to read whatever the entrant had written it wanted said about it.  O’Neill’s pointed out that he was the first Republican candidate in six years.

John O'Neill worked the same people Jack Franks did previously. This couple said O'Neill had their support. Notice the "Don't Tread on Me" flag on O'Neill's truck. It has become a symbol of TEA Party candidates.

That was the end of the politicians.  Next came Cub Scouts.

Cub Scout Pack 916's float in the Johnsburg parade.

First was Johnsburg’s Pack 916.

Next was Cub Scout Pack 455.

Johnsburg parade float of Cub Scout Pack 455.

Behind Pack 455 marched Boy Scout Troop 455.

Flags flying, Johnsburg's Boy Scout Troop 455 marched behind its Cub Scout Pack.

After the parade, I saw Sheriff Nygren mingling with Saufen und Spiel attendees on the way back to where I parked my car.

Keith Nygren mingled with the crowd after the parade was completed.

Democratic County Board Candidate Says Scott Lee Cohen “Only Clear Choice”

August 21, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bill Brady, Jeff Thirtyacre, McHenry County Board., Pat Quinn, Scott Lee Cohen

Jeff Thirtyacre

In this email comment to one of my articles, District 4 Democratic Party Board member Jeff Thirtyacre demonstrates the problem that Pat Quinn has winning the election this year:
Jeff Thirtyacre says:
08/18/2010 at 5:43 am (Edit)
Between Quinn and Brady, I believe the only clear choice for Governor Is Scott Lee Cohen.

He was targeted from the people who wanted they elite people.

He was voted in by the people and that was tampered with by those who see him as an outsider and were afraid of what he might do once in office. They were afraid their empire would crumble.

Brady has had a long list of programs that he took away from IL taxpayers and residents to protect his special programs and he has not voted for one program to help the people of Illinois.

He has stood by and allowed the corruption to continue knowing what was going on.
