Walsh’s Weekly Wrap-Up
An email from Joe Walsh, the first Congressman to live in McHenry County:
Walsh’s Weekly Wrap-Up
Dear Friend,
This Monday, July 23, I will be hosting a Chicagoland Job Fair with Rep. Peter Roskam, Rep. Robert Dold, and Rep. Randy Hultgren in Addison, Illinois.
Over 75 employers, including UPS, Boeing, Pace, and Home Depot have already indicated that they are attending. There is no charge for employers or job seekers to attend the jobs fair.
If you are a job seeker, and would like to attend this event, you can register and view a list of attending businesses here.
Rep. Walsh met with some constituents as part of National Down Syndrome Congress Day on the Hill 2012.
This week, the House of Representatives voted on H.R. 5872, the Sequestration Transparency Act.
This legislation requires the President to submit to Congress a detailed preview of the sequestration cuts required by the Budget Control Act and how the required spending cuts are to be implemented.
Specifically, this bill would require the president to submit a report to Congress within 30 days of enactment that includes an estimate of the sequestration percentages and amounts necessary to achieve the required reduction.
I also attended a hearing of the House Committee on Homeland Security, Subcommittee on Transportation Security titled
“Decade After 9/11 Could American Flight Schools Still Unknowingly Be Training Terrorists?”
I was able to question Transportation Security Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials on the security of our nation’s flight schools.
It was revealed through my questioning that people that are on the “no fly” list and therefore barred from boarding a commercial aircraft could still receive flight training to fly that aircraft. To watch video of the hearing, please click here.
Finally, my staff will hold mobile office hours every Friday from 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Schaumburg Township Center, One Illinois Blvd. Hoffman Estates, IL. If you cannot make it to one of my district offices, let us come to you!
I work for you,
Joe Walsh
