A press rele3ase from Joe Walsh:

Rep. Walsh: Illinois Is Still Hurting

Holds job fair in Schaumburg

Schaumburg – Yesterday Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8) hosted another successful job fair in Schaumburg, which brought over 500 jobseekers and 43 employers together.

This is the third job fair Walsh has held since coming to office.

Congressman Joe Walsh listens to a job seeker.

“Illinois is still hurting, and the success of these job fairs show how desperately Illinoisans want to get back to work,” Walsh said.

The state’s unemployment rate has hovered above 8% for over a year and roughly half a million Illinoisans remain unemployed.

Congressman Joe Walsh speaks at his Schaumburg Job Fair.

The purpose of the job fairs are to put these unemployed workers with Illinois employers who can provide good-paying, local jobs.

Walsh, who chairs the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth and Capital Access, recently held a hearing in Washington that delved into crippling federal tax policies burdening small businesses.

Some of the Schaumburg Job Fair exhibits were in the hall.

Representatives in Illinois testified that the Death Tax, which must be paid when family businesses pass on to one another after a death, limit the amount of money they can put into creating more jobs needed by Illinoisans.

“President Obama and his liberal allies think over regulation, higher taxes like the Death Tax, and more spending will get Americans back to work – they are dead wrong. Putting those needing jobs directly in touch with those who can provide them like we did at today’s job fair, does. ”

Walsh’s job fair in Schaumburg featured a number of Illinois employers, including

  • Northrop Grumman,
  • Carmax,
  • Pace,
  • Abbott Laboratories,
  • Cardinal Health,
  • GCG Financial
  • among others.

Walsh will host another job fair on July 23rd with Representatives

  • Bob Dold (IL-10),
  • Peter Roskam (IL-6), and
  • Randy Hultgren (IL-14).

Peter Roskam Takes on Pat Quinn

An email from Congressman Peter Roskam:

As Gov. Quinn gives his State of the State Address later today, it’s important to consider this past year’s record. The last year has served as a crystal clear example that tax increases did not help Illinois’ economy nor did it help our worsening fiscal crisis.

-          FLASHBACK: January 2011: Gov. Quinn Signs Record Tax Hike Into Law. Raises individual income taxes by 67 percent and corporate income taxes by 30 percent.

Since the Quinn tax hike, the state’s unemployment – previously dropping precipitously down to 9% – jumped right back up to 9.8%.

-          BY THE NUMBERS: Illinois’ unemployment rate increased the most in the entire country in 2011; Now the 7th highest unemployment rate in the U.S.

While neighboring states tackle record debt and fight to make themselves the most competitive for job growth, Illinois’ heading in the other direction. Neighboring states like Missouri, Wisconsin, and Indiana have all gained jobs this year while Illinois lost over 72,000 in the past year alone.

Illinois can do better than economic policies that take money out of its people’s pockets and jobs out of Illinois. As these charts prove, Illinois is heading in the wrong direction.

View the charts below or on Facebook where they were exclusively posted this morning.

Randy Hultgren Issues Statement on Jobs, Links “Dismal” Report to Pres. Obama

September 02, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Job, Jobs, Randy Hultgren

A press release from Congressman Randy Hultgren:

Hultgren Statement on August Jobs Report

Geneva, IL – U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren (IL-14) today released the following statement regarding the August unemployment report released by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Randy Hultgren

“August’s dismal jobs report is disappointing, but unsurprising, so long as this Administration continues to pursue its anti-jobs agenda of burdensome regulations, taxes, and out-of-control spending,” said Hultgren.

“Despite his claims to be cutting red tape, the reality is that President Obama and his appointed bureaucrats are proposing even more regulations that threaten to do enormous damage to our fragile economy.”

“Before he comes to Congress next week, I urge President Obama to study the commonsense pro-growth agenda Republicans will be adopting this fall.

“More taxes and spending won’t get our economy moving and put Americans back to work; that requires fostering a pro-growth economic climate; lessening intrusions by unaccountable bureaucrats; and providing certainty about what Washington will do in the future.”

Joe Walsh Sees No Reason to Go to D.C. to Hear Obama Speak of Jobs, Decides to Hold Small Business Committee Hearing Instead

Just before protestors organized by a McHenry County Democratic Committeeman were about to kick-off a Woodstock Square demonstration against him, Congressman Joe Walsh announced that he would hold a hearing of the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, which he chairs, the night of President Barack Obama’s big “jobs” speech.

Here is his press release:

Rep. Walsh Announces Small Business Job Forum

“Small businesses, not more big government spending and regulations, are the

key to pulling America out of this recession.”

WASHINGTON – Today, Congressman Joe Walsh announced plans to hold a small business job forum next Thursday night, September 8, 2011 in his home district in Illinois. Walsh is chair of the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access and will be flying to Illinois after votes on Thursday night and returning to the Capitol before votes on Friday morning.

“I don’t see the point in being a prop for another of the President’s speeches asking for more failed stimulus spending and more subsidies for his pet projects. Instead, I will fly back to Illinois right after Thursday’s votes to talk to small businessmen and women, the real job creators, about creating real jobs.”

“Lowering taxes and freeing small businesses from burdensome red tape, not more stimulus packages and government regulations, are the keys to pulling America out of this recession. Small Businesses represent 99 percent of all employer firms and employ about half of all private sector employees. They are the ones that create jobs and generate economic growth.”

“It’s time to stop the same Washington D.C. ‘politics as usual’ that got us into this mess.

“The President needs to stop the speeches, get out of his office and away from all the White House academics, and start talking to real people out there. They’re the ones who are going to create the jobs, not White House paper-pushers and bureaucrats.

“As chairman of the Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access, I have made it my mission to help American small businesses create jobs and put America back to work.”

Manzullo & Walsh Fighting Plastics’ Regulation in Woodstock Wednesday

August 15, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Composites One, Don Manzullo, Fibrerglass, Job, Joe Walsh, Woodstock

A press release from Congressmen Don Manzullo and Joe Walsh:

Reps. Manzullo, Walsh to Discuss Job-Killing Styrene Regulation

with Woodstock Employer Wednesday

Don Manzullo

Joe Walsh

[WOODSTOCK] Congressmen Don Manzullo (R-Egan) and Joe Walsh (R-McHenry) will tour the Woodstock facility of a composite manufacturer Wednesday morning and discuss how 13,000 Illinois jobs are at risk of going overseas because of a faulty government regulation on styrene.

Manzullo, who is leading a national effort to overturn the job-killing regulation, will join Walsh for the 10:30 a.m. tour and discussion at Composites One, 1066 Dieckman Street, Woodstock.
The media is invited to attend and cover the tour and discussion.
Styrene (vinyl benzene) is an organic compound used in manufacturing thousands of strong, flexible, and light-weight products used in the automotive and boating industries, as well as plastics, insulation, highway and bridge construction, food containers, carpet backing, tires, and rubber.
Products made of fiberglass composites include residential tubs and showers, pipes wind turbine blades, pollution control equipment, and ballistic shields that — every day — protect our brave men and women in the Middle East.
In June, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) under the U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services classified styrene as “reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen,” despite studies from Canada and the European Union that determined styrene does not cause cancer.
In Illinois alone, the composites industry contributes 13,000 jobs and $2 billion in economic activity. American manufacturers could move jobs and facilities elsewhere if styrene is improperly feared as a carcinogen.

“We Will Pay You to Stay”

May 07, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Careen Gordon, Job, Layoff, Motorola Mobility, Pat Quinn

Tribune editors thought the $100 million promised Motorola Mobility to stay in Illinois was the most importat story for Saturday.

Would $17 million (the same 34,750 per job offered Motorola Mobility) have saved these positions?

Using a method Democrats seem to understand, Governor Pat Quinn has offered Motorola’s newly-spun off cellular division $100 million not to move to sunny California.

Exchange of things valuable.

Our tax dollars for jobs.

Quinn pro quo.

3,000 jobs that are already here is the prize.

The Tribune says that works out to $34,750 per job retained, “considerably more than the $15,000 to $20,000 per job that is more typical when the state awards tax credits to keep or attract businesses.”

Meanwhile other big Illinois employers gave notice that 474 employees would be cut.

Illinois apparently does not have assets other than taxpayers’ money to induce profit-making entities to settle or stay in Illinois.

And, of course, this bears no resemblance to Quinn’s offer of an $86,000-plus job on the Prisoner Review Board to defeated State Rep. Careen Gordon.

Just a Quincidence that she voted with fellow Democrats to hike income tax rates 67% after promising voters she would not during her campaign for re-election.

Walsh Emphasizes Job Creation, Asks Job Creators to Tell What Government Does Wrong

April 28, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: American Job Creators, Job, Joe Walsh

The following press release has arrived from Joe Walsh: The video asks job creators to tell how government negatively affects their businesses.

Rep. Walsh releases video, launches participation in AmericanJobCreators.com

“Americans have a right to an efficient, effective government that works for them”

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Joe Walsh today released a new video, launching his participation in www.AmericanJobCreators.com to directly engage Illinois’ job creation experts in his work on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to knock down burdensome government barriers to American job creation and prosperity.

AmericanJobCreators.com is built to listen to the personal stories of 8th district constituents, Illinoisans and nationwide job creators who feel the impact of government rules and regulations.

“Americans have a right to an efficient, effective government that works for them,” Walsh says in the video. “American job creators deserve the opportunity to succeed and grow here in the United States. Government should deliver predictability, allowing innovators to deliver results.”

Joe Walsh asks businessmen to tell AmericanJobsCreation.com how government hurts their enterprises.

“My job on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee is to help both  and businesses secure these rights. But in order to do that we need help from you, our country’s proven job creation experts.”

By visiting AmericanJobCreators.com innovators across the district can describe how government affects their business, explaining where they think Washington helps, and where it hurts. Walsh will look at these firsthand experiences to help strengthen rules that work and eliminate regulations that don’t.

“Taxpayers deserve a government that understands its impact on job creators before it regulates. Imagine a more efficient, effective government doing that.

“I know that Americans want a better, not bigger government. I know that we need to get ineffective government regulations out of the way so that we can allow job creators to do what government can only dream of doing: creating jobs and thereby creating wealth.”

“I’m listening to the many job creators and citizens who have already spoken out. I’m looking forward to hearing from you, too.”

First State Rep. Says She Won’t Raise Taxes, Then She Does, Next She Gets Higher Paying Job

January 16, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Careen Gordon, Illinois Prisoner Review Board, Income Tax, Income Tax Hike, Job, Little Bill

Today the Sun-Times noticed a story the Chciago Tribune ran yesterday.

Here’s what defeated State Rep. Careen Gordon told the Kankakee’s Daily Journal in October:

“At this point now, I can’t ask the people who live in my district for more money until the state of Illinois shows that they are good at money management. I haven’t voted for a tax increase and I have showed I won’t vote for a tax increase until we show that.”

It’s in an article about her appointment to the Illinois Prisoner Review Board after she voted with other lame duck Democrats for the 67% income tax increase.

The post pays $85,886 a year.

This satire of "Little Bill" may or may not be relevant to this story.

Gordon has moved from Morris to Chicago.

Anyone want to be that there won’t be more stories like this?
