Message of the Day – Crosses

September 30, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, Baby, Crystal Lake, Knights of Columbus, Message of the Day, St. Thomas Catholic Church

This evening I was  at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Crystal Lake registering voters.

A man not attending services said he was there as part of an effort to erect crosses in memory of the millions of babies that have been aborted since Roe v. Wade was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

One cross for every million babies who died an untimely death by way of an abortion.

As I was leaving I saw the Knights of Columbus at work on Route 14.

I asked how many crosses were being put up.

“96.”

Drivers on Route 176 in Crystal Lake will see 96 crosses in front of St. Thomas Catholic Church during October. They are in memory of the 96 million babies aborted since Roe v. Wade was handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

I didn’t realize the total had risen that high.

92 million babies.

Message of the Day – A Cross

April 15, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: 096, Joplin, Knights of Columbus, Message of the Day, St. Mary's Catholic Chruch, Tornado

Today I share with you a fund raising project of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin, Missouri, where my brother-in-law attends church.

The Knights of Columbus Council (14,096) are selling magnets with these photos.   Here’s the web site.

Since it is a storm weekend, the message seems appropriate.

"His Cross Can Weather Any Storm" is the

The cross is pretty much all that was left of St. Mary’s.

My sister took this photo of St. Mary's Catholic Church after the tornado swept through Joplin.

And, in case you haven’t read about the butterfly people seen by young children carrying people in the sky, you can read my sister’s account here.

Illinois House Honors Bill Dwyer

Crystal Lake’s Mike Tryon introduced and passed House Resolution 363 to honor Bill Dwyer. It follows:

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bill Dwyer as a symbol of our respect.

And, as you can see, Crystal Lake has followed in Chicago’s footsteps by giving an honorary name to a street:

Bill Dwyer Way

It’s located near the Main Beach’s Band Stand across from the entrance to the parking lot.

End to All Abortion Restrictions Seen If Obama Wins

November 02, 2008 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Knights of Columbus, Phil Weyna, Pro-Life

Crystal Lake Knights of Columbus Pro-Life Chairman Phil Weyna has sent the following to his “Brother Knights:”

Culture of Life at the Crossroads

Dear Brother Knights,

Never before in the history of our nation has the Culture of Life been under such imminent threat of extinction.

Next Tuesday, November 4, American citizens will choose, for their President, between a life-long pro-life candidate and an avid pro-abortion candidate. If the pro-abortion candidate wins, one of his stated top priorities will be to sign the Freedom of Choice Act, now pending in Congress.

And what is the freedom of Choice Act? It would completely federalize the abortion issue and strike down all state laws from parental notification to the Woman’s Right to Know laws to bans on partial birth abortion to Illinois’ Born Alive bill, declaring them null and void with the stroke of his pen. In effect, the new pro-abortion President would dash our hopes of negating Roe v. Wade through adoption of incremental state laws against certain forms of abortion.

And if that isn’t bad enough, the new pro-abortion President, backed by a cooperative Congress, will appoint as many as four new Supreme Court Judges, undoubtedly with a very liberal bent. This would make it very unlikely that Court action against Roe v. Wade would be successful.

Brother Knights, Pope Benedict XVI, Bishop Doran, Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and our own Pastors have urged us to vote against the Culture of Death. In fact, this is non-negotiable. Please make the correct moral vote next Tuesday.
