Message of the Day – A Cake

April 22, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Black Sheep, First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, Galena, Jesus, Jesus Christ, Lamb, Lamb of God, Message of the Day, Messiah, Sedar

This cake symbolizes the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, and the lambs slaughter the night of Passover.

Symbolizing the lambs that the Israelites slaughtered the night of Passover in Egypt and Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, sacrificed for mankind’s Salvation, is this seasonal cake found at Jewel.

Wesley Hall was filled the Methodist Church's Sedar Thursday night.

I chose the chocolate version, although white icing was also available, to take to the First United Methodist Church’s Sedar Dinner.

On a trip south of Galena while stay at the Eagle Ridge Inn, we found a flock of sheep.

While we were in Galena, I found a black lamb.

The Cantada is over, but there will be three services on Easter. The church is located at the intersection of West Crystal Lake and Dole Avenues.

Easter Services at Crystal Lake’s Methodist Church are at 8, 9:30 and 11. The eleven o’clock service is the one where people are dressed most informally. It is also the most contemporary of the services.

Still Time to See the McHenry County Fair

August 08, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Cattle, Cow, Cows, Holstein, Lamb, McHenry County Fair, Milk Cow, Pig

This morning looked like a washout for the McHenry County Fair, but it certainly has turned into a beautiful day.

So, if you haven’t taken your kids to see the animals, how about it driving to Woodstock?

The Wilke Boys raised these cattle, the sign says, on Holiday Farm.

You don’t have to look hard to see cattle.

A little one was bold with some pigs.

Some pigs might touch their noses to small fingers.

This lamb seemed used to human touch.

Petting lambs doesn’t require a petting zoo.

They call them "milk cows" for a reason.

Get there at the right time and you might see a Holstein getting milked.

"You looking at me?"

Turkeys were at the outside of the poultry tent.

This is the fuzziest chicken I have ever seen.

And, there was chicken that was so fuzzy that only its beak was visible.

Keely might win the "Fuzziest Cat" award at the County Fair, if there were one.

It reminded me of our cat Keely.

Message of the Day – Decapitation

Despite having escaped to Florida to visit the Wonder Lake snowbirds, her parents, my sister-in-law apparently prevailed upon my bother-in-law to take a picture of me decapitating the lamb-shaped butter.

Apparently, some 17 years ago, I playfully (or, at least I hope it was “playfully”) cut off the lamb’s head to butter my bread.

So, they insisted I do it again.

Here’s the evidence of my compliance with their request.

Ah, the ignominy.
