Message of the Day – Beached

September 06, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Crystal Lake, Crystal Lake Main Beach, Main Beach, Mesage of the Day, Sailboat

More often than not, this is what I see on the way home.

It’s a view of Crystal Lake through the wrought iron fence of the Crystal Lake Park District’s Main Beach.

End of the summer at Crystal Lake's Main Beach has three sailboats on the shore.

The last time I went through the intersection, I saw three sailboats beached on the shore.

Certainly the temperature of the air would lead one to believe that summer is over.

Message of the Day – Red

November 23, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bush, Euonymus, Mesage of the Day, Red

As I have mentioned before, during the Bicentennial Celebration, Crystal Lake’s committee urged area residents to plant euonymus bushes.

The brilliant reds late every fall remind me of those 1976 festivities.

We have two in our yard.

This euonymus bush's red leaves contrast nicely with our white stucco exterior.

Our neighbors have a row of them across the fence.

Message of the Day – A Reprise

February 24, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Algonquin Township, Grafton Townhip, McHenry Township, Mesage of the Day, Nunda Township, Republican Primary Election, T-Shirt, Tee Shirt, Vote

I have used this tee shirt before as a “Message of the Day,” but it is again appropriate.

VOTE
declare yourself

is the main message.

Just as important for the township elections as for the presidential elections.

Anyone can vote in the Republican primary elections in Algonquin, Dorr, Grafton, McHenry and Nunda Townships.

You have to say that you want a Republican ballot, but Illinois does not have a closed primary.

Anyone can be a Republican or Democrat any election day they want to be and turn into a member of another party right after he or she comes out of the polling place.

Message of the Day – License Plates

February 12, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abraham Lincoln, License Plate, Mesage of the Day

Really parts of license plates.

I found this striking combination of license plates in the main branch of the Algonquin Public Library.

It’s in a display case downstairs.
