Obama for America – Del Webb Organization Meeting at Huntley Park District Thursday Night

August 10, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Barak Obama, Del Webb, Dream, Huntley, Huntley Park District, MoveOn.org, Obama for America

This "Dream" button was found at the MoveOn.org rally against Congressman Don Manzullo.

At the MoveOn.Org demonstration in front of Congressman Don Manzullo’s Route 14 office, McHenry County Blog’s intrepid reporter/camera woman was informed of a meeting being held at the Huntley Park District Thursday night at 7.

I called to discover the sponsor and was told that Obama for America had reserved the room.

So, if you intend to attend the Grafton Township Board meeting at the same location at 7:30, you can come a bit early and see the beginning of President Barack Obama’s campaign in Del Webb.

The following “Contract for the American Dream” was provided at the rally against Manzullo:

MoveOn.org Picket Joe Walsh’s Fox Lake Office

July 26, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Fox Lake, Joe Walsh, MoveOn.org, Terry Kappel

Here's what brought people to Fox Lake Tuesday.

The electronic call for opponents of Congressman Joe Walsh to gather in front of his Fox Lake office at noon was answered by what appears to be 30-40 people.

I notice from the appearance of the demonstrators that their age approximates that of those attending Tea Party rallies on Route 14 last year.

Demonstrations were also requested for other Republican congressmen’s offices, for example, Congressman Don Manzullo, who represents much of McHenry County now, and Peter Roskam, who will represent Algonquin Township under the Democrat’s redistricting plan.

The Fox Lake demonstration by those motivated by MoveOn.org. I count ten on the side of the street where Joe Walsh's office is located, one crossing the street and two across the street.

A view from across Grand shows 19 in front of Joe Walsh's congressional office.

McHenry County Demcoratic Party activist Terry Kappel, wearing a CNN tee shirt, was kind enough to share the content of his messages.

"Which side are you on? Greed, Need," asks the sign in front of Congressman Joe Walsh's office. The other sign says, "Join the fight. Save Medicare and Social Security."

MoveOn.org Paints Noon Tuesday Target on GOP Congressional Offices

Click the sign-up link in the email below and here's what you will see.

Here’s the message that was sent out by MoveOn.org asking people to show up Congressman Peter Roskam’s Bloomingdale office at noon on Tuesday. One would assume that similar messages were sent concerning demonstrations at all the other Republican congressmen’s offices.

MoveOn member, This weekend, it became 100% clear that Republicans would rather see America default, Social Security checks stop going out, the stock market plummet, and unemployment soar than give one inch on their position: that the very richest people and most profitable corporations shouldn’t pay one penny more in taxes.

Even after the president offered Republicans a debt-ceiling deal most MoveOn members probably consider unconscionable—with trillions in cuts, even to Medicare and Social Security—Speaker Boehner still walked away from the table.

Our only chance to move the Republicans is to make sure that the dire consequences of their actions are laid directly at their feet. So with other leaders of the American Dream movement, we’re putting out an urgent call for every patriotic American to show up outside Republican congressional offices on Tuesday at noon to deliver a crucial message: “Don’t destroy the American Dream.”

We need to show up in force and let Rep. Roskam know that we’ll hold him accountable for his position and for the consequences to our economy.

Can you drop by Rep. Roskam’s office on Tuesday at Noon?

Yes, I can drop by on Tuesday!

We’ll follow up with all the details and a link to print your own “Don’t destroy the American Dream” signs to bring to Rep. Roskam.

Then you just have to show up on Tuesday here:

150 South Bloomingdale Road, Bloomingdale, IL 60108

We need to show as much public concern as possible, so please pass this along to anyone else you know who could join in on Tuesday. This is a moment when we need to bring together the vast majority of Americans who find the Republicans’ position immoral.

Let’s get out there on Tuesday and let Republicans like Rep. Roskam know that crashing the American economy in order to protect tax giveaways for the rich is unacceptable.

Peter Roskam will be Algonquin Township’s congressman, if the Democrats’ remap withstands a still-unfiled Federal court challenge.

Mid-March MoveOn.Org Video Surfaces

April 03, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: John Darger, MoveOn.org, Robert Waddell, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Woodstock, Woodstock

Terry Kappel sent me a 13 minute video of the MoveOn.Org demonstration in Woodstock on March 15th.

The “Save the Dream” video was produced by Tom Jacobsen and provides a better idea of what happened at the McHenry County rally than anything else out there.

You can take a look at the YouTube video below:

"Stop the Lie. American is not broke."

The video starts with what looks like a painted bed sheet, which you see above.

The crowd here was chanting, "This is what democracy looks like."

There was a good turnout.

A couple of the cheerleaders are seen above.

“Don’t cut teachers, don’t cut cops.  Collect the taxes from the top,” was one of the chants.

"We're all in this mess together," reads one sign.

As in the Tea Party demonstrations in Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Cary and Lake in the Hills, some cars honked their horns.

One of the vehicle honking its horn.

There seemed to be move agreement shown by horn honking to the Tea Party signs there than on this video of Woodstock.

John Darger played his guitar. One song was "This land belongs to me and you."

Algonquin Democratic Party Precinct Committeeman Robert Waddell was wearing his trademark cap and carrying an AFSCME sign saying, "It's about freedom!"

The crowd was relatively large around Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Woodstock.

I couldn’t find any decent shots of counter demonstrators across the street.

One sign said, "I (heart) Wisconsin Workers."

"Walk in our shoes. Don't tread on our rights," a red sign read.

And one final view from the 13-minute YouTube:

"This Sign Cost More Than the Bank of America Paid in Taxes," is the message here

Movin’ On to Woodstock March 15th to Support Wisconsin Union Protesters

March 12, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: MoveOn dot org, MoveOn.org, Teacher, Teacher Contract, Teacher Dues, Teacher Negotiations, Teacher Pay, Teachers Union, Union, Union Dues, Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Woodstock, Wisconsin, Woodstock

Liberals in McHenry County are being solicited by MoveOn.org to gather in Woodstock Tuesday, March 15th, for a rally in support of teachers and other government workers in Wisconsin who lost some union privileges previously mandated by state laws.

Coincidentally, Tuesday, March 15th, is the deadline for corporations to pay their first quarterly income taxes.

The rally will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Business Route 14 two blocks south of the Woodstock Square.

“A big crowd is crucial,” is emphasized.

The details of the demonstration can be found below:

MoveOn.Org’s Fox River Grove Demonstration

September 03, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Fox River Grove, Health Care, Jon Heideman, MoveOn.org

MoveOn.org scheduled a demonstration in Fox River Grove at 7:30 last night.

It’s pretty dark then. Looks like some people showed up before dusk.

Jon Heideman was kind enough to send me some pictures of the event.

And, some commentary.

“There were only 3 adults and 2 kids at 7:30.

“During the hour that we stood there random people driving by stopped to show their support of the Government’s not taking over our Health care.

“In total there were 10 people that stopped on our side to show support.

“The only thing that the Move ON.ORG group received were honks, thumbs down and the occasional middle finger.

“I know not one passerby stopped to show support about their position or join their vigil,” Heideman wrote.

The photos are show in the order I received them.
