Nunda Township Republican Precinct Committeemen stepped forward to be introduced.  From left to right are Barb Wheeler, Nick Provenzano, Bridgett Provenzano, Don Kopsell, Mary McClellan, James Becker, Mary Alger, Joe Gottemoller, Dave Gervais, Chairman Mark Daniel, Mike Shorten and Mary Donner.

In a Veterans Acres picnic, the Nunda Township Republican Central Committee hosted area residents and politicians Saturday afternoon.

I got the privilege of introducing the two newest candidates for McHenry County Sheriff, Jim Harrison and Bill Prim.

Jim Harrison, on the left, and Bill Prim get to know each other at the Nunda Township Republican Picnic. In the background are County Coroner candidate Dr. Anne Majewski and, in the cowboy hat, Fox River Grove GOP Precinct Committeeman Andy Gasser.

Although sitting about ten feet away, Sheriff Keith Nygren’s choice, Andy Zinke, who announced over a year ago, didn’t show any desire to meet his rivals.

Andy Zinke gets up from a Crystal Lake Park District picnic table. Pro-Life leader Irene Napier can be seen in the background.

Both Harrison and Prim talked to the crowd.

Sheriff’s candidate Bill Prim talked to the gathered Republicans.

Jim Harrison addressed the gathered faithful as well.

Zinke left the Nunda Township Republican Picnic before the speeches were given.

Nunda Township GOP Picnic Saturday, Sept. 15th

September 12, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township, Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Nunda Township Republicans, Veterans Acres

The 2009 Nunda Township GOP Picnic was held on the grounds of Nunda Township. Here a teen taunts those trying to dunk him.

The Nunda Township Republican Central Committee will hold its third Annual Picnic this Saturday.

In 2009, there was a passel of gubernatorial candidates in attendance. Here you see State Senator Bill Brady and State Rep. Mark Beaubien. This year, will all three 2014 GOP primary candidates for Sheriff be courting votes?

It will again be held at Veterans Acres at the Rotary Pavilion, which is near the north end of the parking lot.

At the 2010 Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Chairman Brent Smith brought a Louisiana alligator to intrigue and entertain the guests.

The event will run from 11am-2pm.

In 2011 Sheriff Keith Nygren and McHenry County Board member Nick Provenzano chowed down on Crystal Lake Rib House.

Free Food & Pop will be provided.

Nunda Township Picnic Next Saturday

So, mark your calendar.

It will be held at Veterans Acres at the building at the north end of the parking lot.

Lunch will be served from 11-2.

We’re close enough to township elections that I’d guess all the hopefuls from Nunda Township will be present, not to mention the contested county candidates.

Nunda Township Republican Party Picnic at Veterans Acres 11-2

October 22, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township, Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Nunda Township Republicans, Picnic

Free ribs from the Crystal Lake Rib House, plus liquid refreshment and enough politicians to provide a venting target for anyone dissatisfied with government at the local, state or Federal level.

Details below, but, “You’al come,” as Township GOP Chairman Brent Smith might say in his Louisiana accent.

Nunda GOP Picnic Saturday at Veterans Acres

It will undoubtedly be the biggest political event of the weekend in McHenry County.

Nunda Township Republican Party Chairman Reacts to Munaretto’s Request to Change County Remap Lines

May 25, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Brent Smith, Dan Duffy, Joni Smith, Marc Munaretto, McHenry County, McHenry County Board., Nunda Township, Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Nunda Township Republicans, Reapportionment, Redistricting, Remap

Yesterday, McHenry County Blog published an email request from Algonquin McHenry County Board member Marc Munaretto to spin the boundaries counterclockwise in the Southeastern part of McHenry County.

This is the reaction of Brent Smith, the Republican Township Chairman of Nunda Township:

Nunda Township Republican Central Committeeman Brent Smith and his wife, Nunda Township Trustee Joni Smith, converse with State Senator Dan Duffy at last fall's Nunda Township GOP Picnic.

I OPPOSE the latest proposed changes to the re-map by County Board Member Dist 1 Marc Munaretto.

I was 1 of 3 residents for Dist 3 that stood up in front of the County Board that APPROVED the proposed redistricting map for Dist. 3.

In my opinion taking in consideration the amount of time that was already put into the redistricting map, Marc Munaretto should have worked with his constituents prior to last weeks County Board meeting to make these changes, like we did.

Is this going to result in another public hearing to approve these proposed changes in next months meeting?

Nunda Township GOP Invites You to Sept. 25th Veterans Acres Picnic

September 12, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township, Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Veterans Acres

Nunda Township Republicans are holding their picnic September 25th, instead of in the middle of the summer, as they have in years past.

Probably to get it closer to the election.

This year they want to know who is coming, although drop-ins probably won’t be turned away.

They request an email be sent to coonpy@att.net.  So copy and paste the address and tell them you’re coming by Sept. 18th.  I can attest to the good food.

Last year there were all sorts of candidates for governor present.

Nunda Electors Seeks Nunda Township Advisory Referendum on Repeal of Open Space Plan

There could be some local action on open space at the Nunda Township Annual Meeting.

Township tax fighters Gerry Walsh, Republican Committeeman Bob Borchert, Doug Mann, and former Republican County Board candidate Craig Steagall have filed the following petition seeking to have the township electors ask the Nunda Township Board put a question on the ballot about whether voters want to repeal the 2007 passed Open Space Plan or not:

We, the undersigned, qualified electors and registered voters of Nunda Township in the County of McHenry, State of Illinois, do hereby petition the Nunda Township Clerk to include an advisory question of public policy to be placed on the agenda item at the 2010 Township Meeting per Section 30-205 of the Illinois Compiled Statutes 60 ILCS 1/ Township Code.  The advisory question pertains to repeal of the Nunda Township Open Space Plan that was adopted by the township voters in April of 2007.  This question shall request that the Nunda Township Board shall certify the question of repeal of this Plan to the proper election authorities, who shall submit the question in accordance with the general election law.

Whether the township board will put the advisory referendum on the ballot remains to be seen.

In other news, Walsh has individually filed complaints against the political action committees of Nunda Neighbors for Open Space, whose treasurer is Democratic Party District 3 County Board candidate Lori McConville, and Nunda Township Republicans, whose treasurer is Nunda Township Trustee Jim Schlader.

In foreground, you see Nunda Township Picnic attendees Joe Wheeler and now-GOP gubernatorial candidate State Senator Bill Brady.

He alleges the Open Space PAC filed late for the second time in six months and the Republicans have listed the township office address, 3510 Bay Road, Crystal Lake, 60012, as the source of a $735.68 donation for the Nunda Township GOP picnic and did not name the donor of the contribution, as required by state campaign finance laws.  The name of the donor was listed as “Picnic Contributions”.  Oddly, other Republican party donors were properly listed by name and address.

In reaction to that complaint, the Nunda Township GOP PAC filed an amendment with the State Board to move that donation from “Itemized” to “Non-Itemized.”

Hearings on both complaints before the Illinois State Board of Elections are scheduled for March 10th in Chicago.
