Dee Beaubien

$1,000 came from Tim Glll, the owner of the Gill Foundation in Denver, Colorado.

Another $1,991.58 from the pro-abortion Personal PAC.

Personal PAC paid San Francisco firm Terris Barnes & Walters for “graph design.”

Beaubien, running as an Independent, is opposing the Republican Party nominee David McSweeney.

What Do Dee Beaubien & Tammy Duckworth Really Believe about Abortion? The Personal PAC Questionnaire

October 30, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, David McSweeney, Dee Boreing, Endorsement, Extreme, Extremist, Joe Walsh, Personal PAC, Pro-Choice, Pro-Life, Tammy Duckworth

After the deluge of publicity about how “extreme” Congressman Joe Walsh is on the abortion issue went unanswered, my frustration level grew so much that I posted the following on Capitol Fax Blog:

Cal Skinner – Monday, Oct 15, 12 @ 10:33 am:

Picture a bold Pro-Lifer’s response.

Run a video of a baby developing.

Say, “Not all of us are going to agree when this becomes a baby, but all of us are going to agree there is a baby before the baby is born.

“Tammy Duckworth believes that mothers should be able to abort their babies up until the day they are born.

“Now, that’s extreme.”

Run text along the bottom quoting what Duckworth’s told the Tribune: “Duckworth said she does not ’support any restrictions on a woman’s right to chose or her access to safe, affordable reproductive health services.”

Now, it would take a bold Pro-Life candidate to follow this advice and there have been none sighted in Illinois.

Something like this run against Pat Quinn during the last days of the campaign would have elected Bill Brady, I believe.

Dave McSweeney went in this direction in a mailing that got delivered on Saturday that can be seen here:

http://mchenrycountyblog.com/2012/10/14/mcsweeney-responds-to-beaubien-pounding-on-abortion-issue/

Also related to abortion, a Catholic Church in Crystal Lake went all in on Obama last weekend:

Below you will see the pro-abortion Personal PAC five-page questionnaire for legislative candidates. Personal PAC requires answers that agree with its positions in order to get an endorsement.

Take a read and see if you conclude that a Personal PAC-endorsed candidate has an “extreme” position on abortion.  Click on any page to enlarge it.

Dee Beaubien Kicks In Another $50,000

October 24, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: David McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan, Personal PAC

Dee Beaubien

When Ron Wait was running for the State Rep. seat I passed up to run for State Comptroller in 1982, he asked Mort Zwick what he should do to win the primary election against Jim Kelley, an appointed incumbent.

“Spend money like water,” was the advice of then-pork belly trader Zwick, who got his wife Jill elected State Rep. in 1980 when I vacated a seat to run an unsuccessful race for Congress.

Although I doubt Dee Beaubien has talked to Mort, she is following his advice.

Monday she reported putting another $50,000 in her campaign fund.

That brings the total to $236,500.

In addition, Beaubien reported receiving

  • $4,600 – Personal PAC
  • $2,000 – Marena Love, Winnetka
  • $1,000 – Robert T. Brumbaugh, Jr., President, Omnibus Advertising, Inverness
  • $1,000 – Springfield Partners LLC, Effingham

Working my way to the amount Dee Beaubien has given her campaign, I discovered she had returned $16,000 to the Friends of Mike Madigan.

Wonder what that means.

Beaubien is running as an Independent against Republican David McSweeney.

Beaubien Abortion and McSweeney Property Tax Pieces Arrive Friday

October 19, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, Corrine Wood, David McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Illinois Education Association, Pension, Personal PAC, Teacher Pension, Teacher Salaries, Teachers Retirement System, Teachers Union

The pro-abortion Personal PAC launched its second mailing on behalf of Dee Baubien (Ind.-Madigan) in her race against Republican David McSweeney. It arrived on the last workday of the third week of October.

It features former George Ryan Lt. Gov. Corrine Wood (not implicated in any of Ryan’s misdeeds), along with candidate Beaubien. It has a lot of panels, which you can see below:

The address side of the Corrine Wood piece from Personal PAC.

Here’s the back of the piece as it arrived in mailboxes:

Famous pairs, including Thelma and Louise, who into eternity off a cliff in a convertible, are shown on the back of the mailing.  Click to enlarge any image.

Inside is a foldout,

First appears Dee Beaubien’s photograph.

The second in the feature pair in this mailing comes next.

The pair appear together on this panel.

Text appears on the next panel.

A more detailed explanation of the joint Dee Beaubien-Corrine Woods message appears here, compliments of Personal PAC. Click to enlarge.

The piece has two more panels that are meant to be read together. You see them chopped up below here, so put them together in your mind.

And, the final part of the mailing has a large photo of Corrine Woods.

Corrine Wood appears on this part of the flyer.

While Beaubien’s campaign was going after abortion, McSweeney’s was warning of the real estate tax hike that Mike Madigan wants to impose upon all parts of Illinois outside of Chicago.

This could be a knock-knock joke from the address side of David McSweeney’s post card.

On the back McSweeney links Beaubien to Madigan.

The text talks about how Democrat Mike Madigan wants to increase school district taxes to bail out the obligation that state lawmakers did not fulfill over the years. The copy does not reveal that teacher unions urged legislators to divert the money allocated for pension payments in numerous governors’ budgets to State Aid to Education. With the pension guarantee in the State Constitution, teacher union lobbyists believe they could increase the pension base with higher salaries without having to worry about the resulting pension payments being made. Personal PAC Endorsements in McHenry County Government

October 15, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Endorsement, McHenry County, McHenry County Board., McHenry County Citizens for Choice, Personal PAC

The pro-abortion Personal PAC does not list its fall endorsements on its web site.

Just the primary picks.

But thanks to the McHenry County Citizens for Choice, McHenry County Blog can share them with you.

Here’s the introduction,

“Personal PAC (PP) has sent questionnaires to the county board candidates listed to evaluate their positions on reproductive rights.

“Candidates who completed their questionnaires satisfactorily were endorsed by Personal PAC and are indicated on the chart below. Although other candidates have expressed pro-choice views, those views cannot be recognized if they do not return the Personal PAC questionnaire.

“MCCC does not endorse candidates.

“County candidate’s views on reproductive rights are important.

“Although these offices do not have jurisdiction over abortion policies, support of all reproductive rights, including family planning and comprehensive sexuality education, is essential at every level.

“County boards; school boards; committeemen; municipal boards, and party committeemen can influence decisions on issues vital to our community’s ability to make rational decisions on public health policies and to meet the reproductive health needs of its citizens.

“As elected officials these office holders will have the opportunity to exercise political leadership and have an impact on public officials who are responsible for abortion policies in Illinois. In addition, these offices are often used as first steps in a political career. The chart below shows the candidates and their party affiliation.”

McSweeney Responds to Beaubien Pounding on Abortion Issue

October 14, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, Bill Brady, Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Pat Quinn, Personal PAC, Tammy Duckworth, Uncategorized

Click to enlarge to see the Tammy Duckworth quote.

Last week Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Beaubien) played Rock-em-Sock-em with Dave McSweeney on the issue of abortion in the mailbox, on radio and television.

To that point McSweeney had taken the pinata approach to the campaign, much as State Senator Bill Brady did when he lost to Pat Quinn, who is filled out his Personal PAC questionnaire the same was Beaubien did, that is, as Tammy Duckworth put it forthrightly in the October 12th Chicago Tribune (for which I cannot find a satisfactory link, but have added the internet text to the right):

“Duckworth said she does not ‘support any restrictions of a woman’s right to choose or her access to safe, affordable reproductive health services.’”

That’s shorthand for “I think a woman should be able to abort her baby until the day before birth.”

Dee Beaubien shares Duckworth’s views. One can tell that from her Personal PAC endorsement.

Last week my wife told me that a Beaubien radio ad (WLS-FM, I beleive) said that McSweeney shared the views of foot-in-mouth Missouri U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin.

This week McSweeney counter attacked on the same oldies station (I believe) saying that charge was false, but then went on to counterattack on economic issues.

Seemed strange to me, but a strategist told me that he just didn’t want to fight on her turf.

Looking at McSweeney’s Saturday attack mailing on abortion, I guess it wasn’t an across the board decision to ignore Beaubien’s vulnerabilities on the issue.

Take a look at the mailing:

“Her radical view on abortion are enough to make your cry,” Dave McSweeney’s piece says on the address side, noting that she has given $9,200 to the pro-abortion Personal PAC.

And, here’s the back of McSweeney’s abortion mailing:

David McSweeney’s piece continues on the back, listing specifics.

Beaubien is said to

  • support taxpayer-paid abortions
  • oppose parental notification laws (minors getting abortions without their parents’ knowledge)
  • oppose mandatory waiting periods before an abortion
  • support abortion on demand
  • support partial birth abortions

Instead of emphasizing these positions on the abortion issue, with which about three-fourths of the public agree with McSweeney, he stresses the contributions that Beaubien has made to Personal PAC, which virtually not one has ever heard of.

McSweeney does not state his position. As I understand it, he favors allowing abortion in instances of rape and incest and to save the life of the mother, something Beaubien material has denied.

Unfortunately for McSweeney, another mailing also arrived on Saturday, thus diluting the message.  Or maybe it was intentional.

This Dave McSweeney post card focuses on higher taxes.  It amplifies the simple issue by talking about the impact on a family of having less money to spend.

The back of the economic piece:

David McSweeney is seen in a kitchen talking to a young girl. Unfortunately, the print is so small as not to invite me to want to read it.  The headline says, “It’s about restoring peace of mind.”  Click to enlarge, if you have further interest.

Message of the Day – Mixed

October 10, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: David McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Donna Kurtz, Message of the Day, Personal PAC, Pro-Choice, Pro-Life, Sign

I see “Vote Pro-Life” yard signs popping up around the Crystal Lake area.

Usually they do not have a candidate sign next to them, which, it seems to me, minimizes the message.

After all, most people don’t know who the Pro-Life candidates are.

And there are actually candidates who are avowedly Pro-Choice.

In the Crystal Lake area, that includes State Rep. candidate Dee Beaubien (Ind.-Madigan), who has received significant campaign support from Personal PAC, the most radical pro-abortion outfit in the country.

Personal PAC posted endorsements for three County Board members prior to the March primary election:

  • Donna Kurtz
  • Jim Roden
  • Scott Summers

That brings us to our mixed message of the day:

Donna Kurtz and Pro-Life signs on McHenry Avenue in Crystal Lake.

Will David McSweeney Follow Bill Brady’s Losing Abortion Strategy?

October 05, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, Bill Brady, David McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Mike Madigan, Personal PAC

In any campaign in which I have input my advice is to preempt the negatives.

If a candidate has something that can be attacked, it is better to frame the issue oneself than to allow one’s opponent to do so.

And, if one is too timid to follow that advice, then one should be ready to immediately reply.

When the first Personal PAC television hit ads attacking 2010 GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady were put up the week of the Family PAC Cruise in Chicago, I suggested to Bill that he should reply in kind.

Point out how radical Pat Quinn’s policy on abortion was.

But, no, Brady took the pinata approach.

If a candidate being attacked by Personal PAC and/or the Democratic Party on abortion is as passive on the issue as a Mexican pinata, he should not be surprised if he gets the stuffing knocked out of him.

“Hit me.

“Hit me again.

“Oh, I like it.

“It feels so good.

“Please inflict more damage.”

That seemed to be the reaction of Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady on the abortion issue in 2010.

When I made my suggestion, Bill told me his poll results had gone up right after the TV ads were run.

And, he probably was following the advice of highly paid Establishment Republican consultants who advise just ignoring the abortion issue except to tell Pro-Lifers that one is Pro-Life.

That’s the standard line, both nationally and from state GOP leaders.

But, the Personal PAC beat went on, pounding out its “he’s an extremist” message and, cumulatively, I believe their ads and mailings were the reason that Brady lost his quest to be Illinois Governor.

In other words, the advice from the “experts” wasn’t so expert.

The first abortion hit piece on Dave McSweeney from Mike Madigan arrived September 11, 2012.

David McSweeney’s campaign handlers knew attacks on abortion from Personal PAC were coming.

After all, Terry Cosgrove encouraged Dee Beaubien to run. She’s an activist in their network.

And abortion is THE motivating issue for Dee Beaubien’s candidacy.

The only surprise was that Mike Madigan’s money financed abortion hit pieces before Personal PAC opened its pocketbook.

The first hit September 11th.

A second abortion post card, also sent by the Democratic Party, arrived at the end of September.  Click to enlarge any image.

We are now over three weeks later and there has been no reply form the McSweeney camp.

On September 30th, a second abortion attack came from Madigan’s Illinois Democratic Party.

On the back of it–in big type–was the message,

“David McSweeney isn’t a doctor, but he wants to play one in Springfield.”

Whack.

Then, four days later, comes a third Democratic Party post card, the first Personal PAC mailing, TV ads, plus radio spots aimed at their interpretation of McSweeney’s abortion position.

Whack!

Whack!

Whack!

Whack!

OK.  The chance to frame the issue has been missed.

All that is left is a counterattack.

Candidate Tom Morrison put something out on abortion in his successful fight to beat Suzi Bassi in the Palatine-area Republican primary election two years ago.

He won.

Something like his comparison piece might help McSweeney, but I doubt it will turn the tide of public opinion on McSweeney’s abortion position as defined by the Democratic Party and Personal PAC.

McSweeney will definitely be playing defense on this issue he failed to inoculate himself on for the rest of the election.

Will he be able to pull off the fall election?

If he doesn’t take this on this abortion issue head on, even in this Republican district I have my doubts.

McSweeney Gets Hit Three Times on Abortion, Advantage Beaubien

October 03, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Abortion, Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Democrat, Mike Madigan, Personal PAC, Television Ad, TV Ad

It wasn’t a one-two punch.

It was a one-two-three punch.

There were two mailings.

One was from the Democratic Party of Illinois.

This abortion piece uses the code phrase “women’s health.”

“To extremist David McSweeney Women’s Health is just another political game.”

Again “women’s health” is used as a code word for abortion.

[I'm sure that Dave McSweeney considers his wife's breast cancer as his most important "women's health" care issue this year.]

On the address side is the word “None.”

The next attack was from the pro-abortion Personal PAC.

On the back of the piece as delivered, are the words “No exceptions.”

It looks identical to the hit piece that was successfully used against 2010 GOP gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady.

On the left hand side of the inside foldout are the words “No exceptions…”

It was sent to the woman of the house and is so long that I cannot get an image of how it looks when unfolded.

“Not for incest” is the first hit on David McSweeney.

So, let’s try to piece it together.

After unfolding it again, one sees the word “period” on the left after the words, “No exceptions.”

On the right after opening it one more time are the words “Not for rape.”

“Not for rape” is on this panel.

Open up the third fold and the tail is pinning on Republican Dave McSweeney’s back.

David McSweeney’s photo shows up after opening up the last panel, along with the beginning of a sentence that is too long to put on my scanner: “David McSweeney supports an Illinois law to make abortion illegal.”

The final panel shows a young women in deep thought.

A young woman deep in thought is on the last panel of the Personal PAC hit piece.

Under the photo is the following: “The more you know, the less there is to like…Vote No on David McSweeney.”

But that’s not all, folks.

The Dee Beaubien abortion ad attacking David McSweeney starts with a photo of a young woman with the following question below: “Should a woman have the right to make her own decisions?”

On the Six O’clock WLS-TV News, there was an ad paid for by Dee Beaubien’s campaign committee.

The next slide says, “Politician David McSweeney doesn’t think so.”

That pretty much explains why Beaubien put in $50,000 of her own money into her Political Action Committee and Mike Madigan matched it.

Then there is a slide which has a photo of David McSweeney with what he told Illinois Review on June 6, 2005.  It starts with the following: “Someone could just say they were raped or a victim of incest.  The next slide has a second sentence:  “That creates too broad of an exception.”  There are three more slides, each emphasizes one of the words you see in yellow above until they are all three highlighted.

This ad ran pretty much in the middle of the ABC local news.

The next screen uses the label that Dee Beaubien is trying to pin on Dave McSweeney: “David McSweeney is too extreme.”

The final screen shows that the ad is paid for by Citizens for Dee Beaubien.

The text on the final screen of Dee Beaubien’s ad reads, “David McSweeney, He wants you to trust him, But he doesn’t trust you.”

Meanwhile, McSweeney sent out the following mailing, which stresses his business background on the address side.

This is the address side of David McSweeney’s “I’m a businessman” piece.

When one turns it over, one sees that he is taking on Springfield as well.

“They must be held accountable,” Dave McSweeney’s mailing says.

Inside, the businessman theme is echoed and three types of “accountability” are emphasized.

Inside the latest David McSweeney piece tells of his wanting to roll back the 67% income tax hike, eliminate legislative pensions, cut legislative salaries and budgets and fighting for “real property tax relief.”

For today, it is obviously Advantage Beaubien.

$93,000 Poured into Dee Beaubien’s Fund – $60,752.35 from Madigan PAC’s, $25,000 from Unions

October 02, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Construction and General Laborers' District Council of Chicago and Vicinity, Dave McSweeney, Dee Beaubien, Illinois Pipe Trades PAC, Mike Madigan, Personal PAC

Dee Beaubien

The latest report filed by Citizens for Dee Beaubien with the Illinois State Board of Elections is that her campaign fund received another $93,023.20.

None is from a traditional Republican source.

All the contributions to the Barrington Hills woman running as an Independent are from stalwarts of the Democratic Party.

  • $50,000 – Friends of Michael J. Madigan
  • $20,000 – Construction and General Laborers’ District Council of Chicago and Vicinity
  • $5,000 – Illinois Pipe Trades PAC 534 S. Second St.
  • $2,669.26 – Democratic Party of Illinois for postage
  • $5,662.66 – Democratic Party of Illinois for printing
  • $7,270.85 – Personal PAC for postage
  • $1,397.55 – Democratic Majority to pay Shaw Decremer
  • $1,022.88 – Democratic Majority to pay Andy Jones

The total from Mike Madigan-controlled Political Action Committees amounts to $93,013.20.

Beaubien is running against Republican David McSweeney.
