Nunda Township Picnic Next Saturday

September 08, 2012 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republican Picnic, Nunda Township Republicans, Picnic

So, mark your calendar.

It will be held at Veterans Acres at the building at the north end of the parking lot.

Lunch will be served from 11-2.

We’re close enough to township elections that I’d guess all the hopefuls from Nunda Township will be present, not to mention the contested county candidates.

Nunda Township Republican Party Picnic at Veterans Acres 11-2

Free ribs from the Crystal Lake Rib House, plus liquid refreshment and enough politicians to provide a venting target for anyone dissatisfied with government at the local, state or Federal level.

Details below, but, “You’al come,” as Township GOP Chairman Brent Smith might say in his Louisiana accent.

What You and Your Kids Missed at the Nunda Township Repubilcan Picnic

August 08, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township, Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Nunda Township Republicans, Picnic

There was a good crowd at the Nunda Township Republican Central Committee Picnic.

There was a water slide for the kids.

From a rainy, sixtyish morning, the temperature climbed to the mid-80′s.

Water was the answer for a lot of the kids.

Not just on the water slide, but in a dunk tank. This dunkee was kicking the water in a vain attempt to return the favor with the boy throwing the balls.

No political celebrities. Not the money making attraction it could have been. Just kids willing to get dunked into the increasingly muddy tank.

The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Association also had its “Safety House” trailer.

Kids, of course, don’t always enjoy what the adults plan. This little girl thought picking leaves off a maple tree was the most exciting thing going.

The K-9 unit from the Sheriff’s Department was also present, but I didn’t get a photo of the deputy and his dog.

Tune in tomorrow for the political part of the picnic.

Free Nunda Township Family Picnic Saturday 11-2

August 06, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Nunda Township Republican Central Committee, Picnic

The family friendly Nunda GOP Family picnic is Saturday from 11-2.

Like years past, there will also be free food, entertainment, including

  • the Sheriff’s K9 demonstration,
  • Nunda Fire Truck tours, and
  • a dunk tank.

We will also have a silent auction to raise funds for the upcoming elections for Republican candidates.

The picnic will be at the township headquarters. There are signs pointing to it from the McHenry Blacktop and Route 31.

Here’s a map:

The McHenry Blacktop is called “Walkup Road.”

Here’s my story from two years ago. Jimmy O’Neill, in a photo taken two years ago, appears again above.

Free Nunda Township GOP Picnic Saturday

Wend your way to the Nunda Township complex from either Route 31 at Terra Cotta from the east or the McHenry (Crystal Lake) Blacktop from the west and, from 10-4, you’ll find a free meal and entertainment.

At 11 the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department’s guard dogs will be on view.

At noon, lunch begins, along with a program emceed by former State Senator Dick Klemm.

At one, ”Hawkeye, the Frontier Man” will entertain with tales of the Old West. He will display animal pelts and antique guns.

I arrived late last year after the Rockford Regional Swim Meet, as did McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi. There was still plenty to eat, especially delicious corn.

Bianchi will not be able to make the event this year. He’ll be at a conference out of town.

Walt Romanus is the contact person. His phone number is 815-459-7692.
