Red, Red Is the Color of Choice for Senate Women

A communication from Senator Pam Althoff:

“If you were at the Illinois Capitol on February 6th, you would have noticed several legislators, staff, and others wearing red in recognition of the number one killer of women – heart disease.

“According to the American Heart Association, heart disease claims the lives of nearly 35,000 people in Illinois every year.

“I am proud to join the Conference of Women Legislators (COWL) and AHA’s national Go Red For Women movement to raise awareness about women’s heart health.

“Usually women are so busy taking care of others that they pay little attention to their own wellness.

“That’s why it is so important for all of us to spread the awareness and remind the women we love that they need to pay attention to their health and make healthy lifestyles choices.

“We must start with ourselves to become more engaged in the fight to stop the number one killer of women – heart disease.

“I Go Red for all of the women in Illinois because I don’t want another woman to become a statistic.

“Who do you Go Red for?”

Message of the Day – Red

November 23, 2010 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bush, Euonymus, Mesage of the Day, Red

As I have mentioned before, during the Bicentennial Celebration, Crystal Lake’s committee urged area residents to plant euonymus bushes.

The brilliant reds late every fall remind me of those 1976 festivities.

We have two in our yard.

This euonymus bush's red leaves contrast nicely with our white stucco exterior.

Our neighbors have a row of them across the fence.

Message of the Day – A Tee Shirt

I am so behind in sharing tee shirt messages with you.

This one was worn by a supporter of the Armed Forces.

This tee shirt was discovered at the Patriots United Health Care Town Meeting last August.

It says,

Red Friday -
It’s a Military Thing

On Veterans Day, red poppies were used to solicit funds for those who served in our Armed Forces.

That very day, I snapped these pictures filled with red.

The lilacs leaves on this bush, seen on top, have been turning since September 10th.

I first caught a brilliantly red Euonymus bush on October 18th.

Both of the bushes show here are next to our home in pretty sheltered spots.

One is outside our kitchen window.

The other, outside our sun porch.

Message of the Day – Red

Back in 1076, Crystal Lake celebrated the nation’s 200th birthday like communities all over the country.

Headed by Tom Doby , the committee decided to encourage people to plant Euonymus bushes.

Also known as the “burning bush,” you can see their brilliant red color throughout Crystal Lake this time of year.

This particular bush is outside my CPA George Roach’s office entrance on Walkup Avenue.

We have larger ones in our yard and hanging over our fence hanging over the fence from our neighbor’s yard. Odds are good the two were planted in 1976 as “Bicentennial Bushes.”

First, we had a white fall color.

Then, outside our kitchen window, I saw these red lilac leaves.

So early in the season.
