There is no exciting or even boring contest for McHenry County Stat’s Attorney this year, so let’s dip into the one in Lake County. The following press release is from a candidate who actually attended a fund raising event for future State Representative Barb Wheeler this summer:

BRYAN WINTER SWEEPS GOP ENDORSEMENTS FOR STATE’S ATTORNEY

Libertyville, Wauconda, & Cuba Township Organizations Impressed by Winter’s Vision for Office

WAUKEGAN, IL – Three Lake County Republican Township organizations have all endorsed Republican Candidate, Bryan R. Winter for Lake County State’s Attorney.

The Libertyville Township Republican Organization, one of the largest Republican groups in the County announced its “unanimous” endorsement and support for Bryan Winter’s candidacy on Saturday. Wauconda Township Republican Club and the Cuba Republican Club also endorsed Winter.

Bryan and Diane Winter attended Barbara Wheeler's summer fund raiser in Crystal Lake.

The Libertyville endorsement session included township committeemen listening to presentations from each Republican candidate for the position of State’s Attorney. Organizational bylaws require that a candidate must receive support from at least 60% of the total votes cast by committeemen to receive an endorsement.

The “unanimous” endorsement from the organization in support of Winter was exceptional, since rarely does a candidate receive 100% support in a contested primary.

Libertyville Republican Chairman, Edward P. Kelly stated, “Bryan Winter is a proven leader within the Lake County legal community; he has broad legal experience in addition to his service as the chief legal officer for several governmental entities. He also has leadership skills as the past president of the Lake County Bar Association. His experience and skills are what is needed for the next State’s Attorney.”

The Wauconda Township Republican Club and Cuba Township Republicans also endorsed Bryan Winter for Lake County State’s Attorney. Bruce J. Sauer, Chairman of the Cuba Township Republican organization noted that “Bryan Winter has the strongest qualifications and the vision to increase the cooperation between the county and local police departments.”

”It means a great deal to me to receive group endorsements from the Libertyville, Cuba and Wauconda Township Republican organizations,” said Winter. “I greatly appreciate their support and would bring a fresh and independent approach to the office of the Lake County State’s Attorney by utilizing my experience and leadership skills.”

Bryan Winter, is a former local prosecutor and litigator with over 26 years of experience in legal matters relating to individuals, corporations and municipalities. Winter is the village attorney for Gurnee and Kildeer. He grew up in Waukegan, and currently resides with his wife, Diane, and son in Lake Barrington.

Wauconda Township GOP Endorses McSweeney over Gaffney and Rowe

A press release from Dave McSweeney’s campaign for State Representative:

Wauconda Township Republicans Endorse David McSweeney

The Wauconda Township Republican Organization has announced their official endorsement of David McSweeney’s campaign for State Representative in the 52nd District. McSweeney was chosen in a vote of the rank and file members of the club.

“We’re proud to endorse David McSweeney. He is a dynamic leader who will fight for lower taxes and real reform in Springfield,” said Bob Gottardo, Chairman of the Wauconda Township Republican Club.

Dave McSweeney

McSweeney has attended a number of events in the Wauconda area and has been received well with his message of cutting taxes and spending in Springfield. His top priority is to repeal the 67% increase in the state income tax that is killing jobs in Illinois. In addition, McSweeney has supported stopping property tax increases when property values are going down. The legislature in Springfield failed to approve bipartisan legislation providing tax relief to property owners.

“I am very proud to have the endorsement of the Wauconda Township Republican Club. These are the people who are in the trenches carrying the Republican banner and I look forward to working with them in the campaign and when I get to the legislature. I will be a fiscal hawk cutting taxes and spending and making sure that property tax payers get relief,” said McSweeney.

McSweeney is running against appointed incumbent State Rep. Kent Gaffney and Danielle Rowe.

Packed House Greets Joe Walsh in Wauconda

January 13, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Gabrielle Giffords, Joe Walsh, Town Hall Meeting, Township Hall, Wauconda, Wauconda Township

The Wauconda Township hosted an overflow crowd at U.S. Representative Joe Walsh's first town hall meeting after assuming office.

8th District Congressman Joe Walsh was greeted by a packed house at his first town hall meeting after he was sworn into office.

A view from the back of the room. This is almost a "Where's Waldo?" photo. The congressman is seen facing the crowd.

Against the backdrop of the Tucson, Arizona, shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Griffords, citizens packed the Wauconda Township Hall last night.

It's a good thing the fire marshall didn't attend.

When he held a pre-swearing in town hall meeting at McHenry West High School, Walsh had told attendees that he was going to hold so many town hall meetings that people would get tired of them.

Another view of the crowd.

At Wauconda, he promised one a week.

As the Daily Herald reported,

“And so help me God, speaking for myself, I will not let one 22-year-old, sick, deranged soul change what I do.”

Congressman Walsh said,

“We had over 250 citizens, and 40 or so were turned away.”

Pigapalooza Effort at Conciliation, Not Victory Party

May 11, 2009 By: Cal Skinner Category: Bob Wargaski, Glenn Swanson, Island Lake, Joe Munson, John Amrich, Lorraine Jankowski, Mary Taylor, Pat Oaks, Pig Farm, Ron Richards, Wauconda Township, Wauconda Township Team

After publishing my Island Lake Pig Farmer Pigapalooza story, I was informed by Bob Wargaski that it was not a “victory party,” as I wrote.

I’ll let him speak for himself in his email, which is below:

“Actually it was not.

“What I discovered was that when people go to village hall meetings it can be intimidating, to stand up and ask questions from the audience.

“So I thought why not invite the electorate and constituents to a casual atmosphere. I was very careful not to let it be construed in any other way.

“What I did was to invite all the newly elected representatives and current village officials from Lakemoor, Volo, Wauconda, Island Lake, Wauconda Township, Nunda Township and Moranine Sanitary District to come out and let their constituents chat and talk to them while chewing on pork and potatoes with a beer to discuss the pork our government is spending.

“My issue with Island Lake is done and over, the event had nothing to do celebrating and type of victory.

“The amount of my money and taxpayer money spent is nothing to celebrate.

“Actually it is a sad issue what the previous Island Lake government did.”

Now that I think about it, Wargaski told me how he had invited various local officials. And I remember meeting some.
