The Weekend Wrap-Up – 14th District

September 27, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Antioch Township Republican Club, Gun Rights Policy Conference, Joe Walsh, Kane County GOP Round-Up, Liberty Street Tea Party, Quentin Road Baptist Church, Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church, Randy Hultgren, State Line Rifle Association, Wauconda, Young Repubicans

My goal is to chronicle what happens in the 14th Congressional District race each weekend.

I have asked both Randy Hultgren’s people and those of Joe Walsh to provide me with a summary and photos so I may share them with you.

This past weekend Hultgren was at a Congressional hearing in Springfield on broadband internet in rural areas. No press release or photos yet, but I’m hopeful.

Walsh’s folks sent me the following:

This weekend, Congressman Walsh returned from Washington Friday afternoon and then spent some time getting acquainted with folks in Kane County at the Annual Kane County GOP Round-Up before heading North to the Antioch Township Republican Club’s Autumn Dinner.

Joe Walsh spoke to a gun policy event on Saturday.

Saturday began with NRA Day, hosted by the State Line Rifle Association, followed by Joe delivering remarks at the 26th Gun Rights Policy Conference in Chicago where he received the “2011 Bill of Rights Award” for his efforts to promote the 2nd Amendment. He also made remarks at the Wauconda America Legion at their annual installation of new officers

The Liberty Street Tea Party held a pig roast that Joe Walsh attended.

Later Saturday afternoon Joe joined 140 members of the Liberty Street Tea Party in Wauconda for a pig roast at a home on the banks of Bangs Lake.

Joe Walsh speaks to Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church in Lake County.

Earlier today (Sunday) he spoke at the Quentin Road Bible Baptist Church’s Sunday Service at the invitation of their pastor and enjoyed a homemade fried chicken lunch where he and Helene ate with Irene Napier.

This afternoon, Joe served as a sponsor for the Northwest Suburban Young Republicans BBQ and walked barrington’s Art in the Barn for a couple hours meeting folks.

Here’s what Hultgren’s people report he was doing (received after the article was up):

On Friday as soon as he returned home from Washington, Congressman Hultgren attended the Kane County GOP Fall Round Up and then up to Antioch for the Antioch Township Republican Dinner/Dance honoring State Rep. JoAnn Osmond.

On Saturday he headed down to Springfield for an Ag Committee to review the role of broadband access in rural economic development. Members of the Committee heard testimony from a panel of witnesses on how access to rural broadband provides opportunities in healthcare, education, and market access. They also examined some of the challenges, such as lack of infrastructure, to realizing the full potential of rural economic growth.

On Sunday he attended church with his family and then headed to Barrington for the 3rd Annual Suburban Young Republican BBQ.

Walsh Reviews Week’s Activities

August 20, 2011 By: Cal Skinner Category: Joe Walsh, Town Hall Meeting, Wauconda

A press release from Congressman Joe Walsh:

Walsh’s Weekly Wrap-up

As I and other Members of Congress work in our districts for the month of August, I wanted to provide an update on my meetings and other items that may be of interest to you.

I recently wrapped up holding ten town hall meetings in ten days.

There were over 2,000 residents in attendance and I heard from them on a number of issues.

180 people packed Wauconda's American Legion Hall in Joe Walsh's first summer Town Hall Meeting.

Many of those in attendance conveyed their concerns with our near-double digit unemployment, government over-spending, and the uncertain future of our economy.

I heard their message loud and clear.

Americans are struggling, fed up with Washington and looking for leadership on the financial challenges facing our country.

I hope the President heard the same message on his visit to Illinois earlier this week.

In case he didn’t, I invited him to host a joint-town hall meeting with me.

President Obama has shown that he is out of touch and does not understand what makes the American economy tick.

He needs to get out and talk to real folks in an open unscripted format – and listen.

Another message the President should have received this week was that a key component of his healthcare plan is unconstitutional.

A federal appeals court affirmed what I and millions of courageous Americans have been saying since this debate started.  President Obama’s signature legislation forcing Americans, regardless of needs or means, to buy government approved health insurance violates the Constitution.

We will continue to discuss these and additional items at additional town hall meetings and Cup of Joe with Joe events in the coming weeks.

It is important that I hear your concerns.

I assure you that I’m listening and won’t run away from the problems facing our country.

Together we will address unemployment, government spending and the over-regulation that is killing our job creators.

We need to get people back to work and the economy back-on-track.

Representing Illinois 8th Congressional District
