McHenry County College Denies Access to Baseball Stadium Financing Scheme Prior to Vote

McHenry County Blog apparently filed the right request under the Freedom of Information Act with McHenry County College.

Finding a reference to information that two financial advisers have prepared, two Freedom of Information requests were filed with the college.

The first was dated May 14, but not received until May 17th. (Guess I didn’t change the date on the template letter.)

Today a letter arrived asking for another seven-work day delay on the first request. With the Memorial Day holiday, that means the information will not bde available until 14 days from now—well after crucial decisions have been made at May 24th’s Thursday night’s meeting.

Understand that no government has to wait the maximum number of days to fulfill a Freedom of Information request.

Why is 14 days needed to produce a document that is obviously readily available?

Here’s the excuse found in 5 ILCS 140/3(d)(v)

the requested records require examination and evaluation by personnel having the necessary competence and discretion to determine if they are exempt from disclosure under Section 7 of this Act or should be revealed only with appropriate deletions.

Let’s see.

Should the taxpaying public be able to see why McHenry County College thinks a baseball team can pay back a $26 million debt?

The secondary question:

Should the taxpaying public be able to see why McHenry County College thinks a baseball team can pay back a $26 million debt BEFORE OR AFTER THE COLLEGE PUTS US IN DEBT?

No word on the second request for baseball stadium financing, which was filed this week.
