Huntley Support Employees Union Reaches Quick Agreement on Contract

McHenry County Blog reported Tuesday that the negotiating team for the non-teaching employees (like bus drivers) was appointed at the May 17th Huntley School District 158 Board meeting that no newspaper assigned a reporter to cover.

School Board President Shawn Green made the motion to appoint himself and his not-so-good buddy Larry Snow to do the negotiations with Superintendent John Burkey.

Wednesday, both the Daily Herald and the Northwest Herald reported the negotiations are complete.

A deal has been cut.

It’s not approved yet by the school board, but agreement has been reached.

How different from the long, drawn-out negotiations with the teachers’ union, which was not agreed upon until after school started last September and which board members who were not part of the negotiating committee did not even get a copy of before the meeting on which approval was expected.

Huntley Education Support Personnel Association union president Yvonne Tovar was effusive in her praise of Burkey, according to Tom Musick’s NW Herald column:

“This new superintendent, he’s awesome; I don’t know how else to explain it. We were looked at as people who really make a difference to the kids’ lives.”

She explained that the three negotiators offered a refreshing change from past officials, Musick reports.
