Ridiculing Rod

Politicians like to be taken seriously.

Laughing at them is the worst type of punishment.

The Chicago Tribune, like the Northwest Herald, does not have a cartoonist anymore.

But the Tribune still covers state news, so when a good cartoon about state politics comes along, it buys the rights to publish it.

That happened on Wednesday when the Tribune published an editorial cartoon drawn by Chris Britt of Springfield’s State Journal-Register.

I’d love to link to it, but I can’t find it at either paper.

So, I’ll describe it.

It’s a scene from “Bungling Bros Budget Circus.”

The slogan of the circus is “The Greatest Dough on Earth.”

And, as you saw yesterday, “Blago” is a clown riding a unicycle, squeezing a horn that goes

“HONKA, HONKA.”

If that were not ridicule enough, a man is saying,

$600 and that’s the best make-up job he could get?”

And, here’s part of another cartoon published by the Tribune on Saturday. It is by Pat Shiplett, a freelance cartoonist.

Blagojevich is drinking something with President George W. Bush. They are discussing the success of their second terms. Both show signs of physical injury. Blagojevich is saying,

“My second term is awesome!!”

I can’t find a link to it, but here’s one to another that someone should have published about Patrick Fitzgerald and another about Blagojevich.

Maybe if Governor Rod Blagojevich does a campaign promise back flip and says he will sign an income tax hike, the cartoons will turn from ridicule to praise.

The Governor will have become so enlightened if he supports a 67% (or you fill in whatever percentage increase that you won’t be able to find in any newspaper, TV or radio report) income tax hike.
