Pay Raise for Legislators – Tactics Changed from Switching to Olive Branch

Governor Rod Blagojevich handed all members of the General Assembly a big, fat 9.6% pay raise late Monday night.

Base pay will now be $63,143. Anyone who has been around any length of time get more than that because of being a committee chairman or minority spokesman, of course.

There’s another kink in Blagojevich’s populist image, but, considering the low esteem in which legislators hold the governor, an olive branch is probably more appropriate than another switching.

3,000 or more in back pay will arrive in the near future in state representatives’ and senators’ mailboxes.

It’s another broken campaign promise.
