Crystal Lake Park Board Sends Letter to Illinois Community College Board about McHenry County College Baseball Stadium Project

The Crystal Lake Park District has called McHenry County College out for not following state rules that require that the environmental impact “on the surrounding community” be provided to the Illinois Community College Board.

Two days after making the decision, the Crystal Lake Park Board got off a letter of objection about McHenry County College’s watershed covering project.

Sent last Saturday, the letter points out to the Illinois Community College Board that its very rules require study of “the impact on the surrounding environment.”

Despite the dramatic change in rules for Crystal Lake watershed development, MCC “did not discuss the subject” in its application.

“In fact, there are environment questions that are being raised in the community as a result of this proposal,” the letter reads.

“MCC is asking a substantial variance from the City of Crystal Lake in their Watershed Ordinance, which has been in place since 1975, and which has played a critical role in the protection of Crystal Lake.”

The park district’s ownership of the lake and management role is pointed out.

“It is the concern of the Crystal Lake Park District that the potential impact of the MCC development proposal on the watershed of Crystal Lake for the Crystal Lake be adequately and thoroughly addressed before any development is allowed to proceed which varies from that currently allowed by existing ordinances,” the letter continues.
