Illegal Immigrants and Health Care

The cartoon I saw this past weekend by Etta Hulme shows a health clinic called the “Good Samaritan Public Health Clinic.”

People are lined up to get in.

In the lower left hand corner is a crudely written
“No Illegals!”

When I first read the cartoon, I thought it was a private clinic.

After all, public health clinics probably wouldn’t have a name so blatantly Christian.

But it does say “public health clinic.”

It seems to me appropriate to provide privately financed health care to illegal aliens.

Providing needed assistance to those in need is what charity is all about.

It is a more complex question when a government like Illinois tries to force taxpayers to pay for health care for illegal aliens without its politicians making that abundantly public.

And, Governor Rod Blagojevich has been trying to hide that intention since the beginning.

Kids Care, started under Governor Jim Edgar, provided health care to all children in Illinois legally.

All Kids provides care to all children whether they are here legally or not.

The cost of such care is wholly borne by Illinois taxpayers. There is no 50% match from the federal government, as there is for traditional welfare health care.

I wouldn’t vote to force Illinois citizens to pay for such health care, but if the Democrats want to impose it on all of us taxpayers, they are in complete control and can do so.

I just wish they would be intellectually honest and tell everyone up front that forcing us to pay for health care to those in our country illegally is what they intend to do…instead of sneaking it in the back door the way Governor Blagojevich is now attempting.
