Disappearing Votes on Huge County Office Pay Raises

A more observant reader of the Northwest Herald web site than I discovered disappearing voters in Regan Foster’s story on raising county board salaries to $104,000 by 2012.

The salaries are now $86,086.

The person didn’t send the links, but pointed out that the web site version of the article listed the nine members who voted against the massive pay hikes.

By the print edition, they were gone.

The nine voting “No” found in the internet edition are

  • “(Barbara) Wheeler, R-Crystal Lake, was joined in her opposition of the raises by members
  • Nick Provenzano, R-McHenry;
  • Yvonne Barnes, R-Cary;
  • Randy Donley, R-Union;
  • Mary Donner, R-Crystal Lake;
  • John Hammerand, R-Wonder Lake;
  • John Jung Jr., R-Woodstock;
  • James Kennedy, D-Lake in the Hills; and
  • Mary McCann, R-Woodstock.”

Then there is this delicious line to end the article:

“For more, see tomorrow’s Northwest Herald.”

But, they are Missing In Action in the print edition.

So, readers who pay for the news by buying a newspaper, actually got less information than those of us who don’t.
