Where the Anti-Minutemen Demonstrators Went

Daily Herald reporter Kerry Lester figured out what happened to the anti-Minutemen demonstrators.

She discovered that

“a group of Hispanic students” gathered at 5 Friday afternoon “in the college’s common area in campus Building A, to collect their thoughts and tape ‘immigrant’ signs to the backs of their shirts.

“At 6 p.m., they attempted to walk through the campus corridors to Building C, where the seminar was held, but were blocked by campus and Minuteman security,”

the article continues.

As I found when I arrived about 6:20, all the doors near the auditorium were locked by the main one right outside the auditorium. College administrators and police were everywhere. And, there were other police officers I was told were less obvious.

So, I guess the students decided not to stick around and demonstrate in the designated area for opponents.

The area was about as out of the way as the “1st Amendment Participation Area” the City of Crystal Lake allowed for protesters to the Gay Games Rowing Regatta.

Had the students stayed, I’ll bet they would have gotten their picture in at least one paper. There was a photographer present for the meeting.

For more details from the only reporter who got this aspect of the story, you can find them here for about the next week.
