Huntely School District – On the Other Hand….

Someone calling him or herself “blue,” who is not willing to spend big bucks on a full-page ad in the NW Herald, left this comment on McHenry County Blog under one of the stories about new District 158 Comptroller Stacie Talbert’s highly critical report (longer version) on the lack of internal controls at the Huntley School District:

”It will be interesting to see how the majority 5 treats this.

“Of course they will do their best to hide it under the carpet like they always do.

“Maybe they will try to draw attention away from their own failures by trying to accuse Larry Snow of not ‘playing nice’ again.

“Or they will pull their usual, ‘lets put the past in the past’ only to continue doing exactly what they have done all along. They justify wasted funds paid by the tax payers, and blame it on everyone else. The whole time they pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

”This is exactly what Larry Snow has been saying all along. They claimed he was the one who was deceiving the public and claimed he distorted the facts, and once again he has proven himself to be correct. Where is the apology? Like Green’s, it will never come.

”The best thing for this district would be for Green, Skaja, and Skala to step down. They have done nothing but hide the facts and lie to the public.

”When will people wake up and see what the real problem is? Somehow I suspect this will be another one of those topics that seems to just go away.”

[Shorten it 11 words and it would be allowed as a 200-word letter to the editor in the Northwest Herald. The Daily Herald would probably publish it as is.]

To which “noleph” replied,

”Gee, I guess you’re right. The majority 5 are sweeping these issues under the carpet. That’s why they are investigating the new ADP payroll system. That’s why they are are investigating the human resources system that fully integrates with the new payroll system.

”If you want to comment on these issues intelligently, you need more information than Larry gives Cal to publish in this blog. Maybe you could attend a meeting, or read an agenda. Then you would find out what’s REALLY happening in this district 158, instead of reading Larry’s propaganda.”

Then, “blue” wrote,

”’Then you would find out what’s REALLY happening in this district 158, instead of reading Larry’s propaganda.’

“Once again, you must point fingers rather than dealing with the real problem. Larry Snow is not responsible for a decade of wasted spending. He is just the only one with the courage to call the board on it. The hostility is due to the fact that he refuses to back down to them.

”I am well aware of what has been going on in this district. I am well aware that this information was to be provided when [forensic audit Jefferson] Wells was hired to produce it. Like many examples in our district, payment for service does not mean it will be provided.

“Only now that Larry Snow insisted the new CFO provide this document, was it made public. I am also aware that these exact issues were noted by Larry Snow before he even ran for the school board.

“It was Skala & Skaja who both claimed he was not correct. Like their many other claims of his inaccuracy, they were wrong. You should be thankful that something will finally be done to prevent such wasted spending rather than lashing out at the messenger.

”Quagliano, an accountant, failed to see what was going on. How can an accountant fail to see that there are no checks and balances in place?

“I for one would love access to my corporate credit card with no obligation to provide documentation for what I charge.

“How many personal items have been paid for by our tax dollars? No one knows since there is NO record keeping of personal expenses. Ours is the only district that has such freedom with tax payer money.

”This is OUR district. It is not the majority 5’s little social project. They are not knowledgeable enough to be put in charge of such an important task. It is time they accepted that fact and moved on.”

A note to “noleph” –

You, too could have found what I found out about Stacy Talbert’s memo by looking at the District 158 web site.
