McHenry County GOP Lincoln Day Dinner Dance Saturday

McHenry County Republicans will have their annual Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday night at the Lakemoor Banquet Hall just across the county line in Lake County.

I remember hearing former Republican County Chairman tell of searching for a site in McHenry County, but failing to find a suitable one.

The cost is $100 apiece, $100 for two, if you are a Republican precinct committeeman.

Even though I am not yet precinct committeeman for Algonquin Precinct 7 again yet (no opponent and no write-in filed in the 60-days before the election required by the democracy-limiting Illinois General Assembly) I was kindly sent one of the two for one invitations.

For that I am appreciative, but $100 bucks is still a lot of money.

My apologies to Dan Rutherford,

  • a state senator from Chenoa near Interstate 55 on the way to Bloomington and
  • 2006 GOP candidate for Secretary of State,

but the price is a bit steep…although I might pop for fifty and I would like to ask him why he is supporting Mitt Romney for president when Romney is the only GOP presidential candidate who has promised to fire U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald (see here and here and here).

Rutherford, by the way, will probably be as blue at he is on the invitation below, considering the weather forecast of 6 degrees.

And, I’d love to be part of the honoring of retiring Circuit Clerk Bill Kays.

I remember the penny poll that the Young Republicans had at its booth in 1968. Do you remember the jar into which you were putting your coins, Bill?

Now, if there were a food fight being featured between Dan Regna and his supporters against Lou Bianchi and his supporters, then I might pay $100 to see it.

But, getting to see the Democrats in action Wednesday night for free has sort of spoiled me.

By the way, the banquet hall is owned by the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150. Its members, I’m told, are putting up signs for McHenry County State’s Attorney candidate Dan Regna and McHenry County Auditor Pam Palmer.

There have been numerous complaints that such signs are being posted where property owners have not given permission.

The union is real particular about signs posted on its property. Here’s an email that recently came out from GOP headquarters:

“In keeping with the long standing practice of the Central Committee for this event, and in keeping with rules set by the Lakemoor Banquet Facility, I must remind you that NO campaign signs will be allowed on or around the Lakemoor Banquet Facility property before, during or after the Republican Lincoln Day Dinner Dance this Saturday. The property owner will destroy any signs displayed on his property.

“For the benefit of all Republican candidates, the Central Committee will provide tables for campaign literature inside the Banquet Hall. You are welcome to place your literature on those tables. Please do NOT place any campaign literature or material on the dining tables. If you do, it will be removed.

”Thank you in advance for helping us make the 2008 Lincoln Day Dinner Dance an enjoyable event.”

Let’s hope the union members are not out the night before the election taking down all of the Bianchi signs they can find.

And, yes, I’ve heard more than I am writing.
