If It Is Romney v. McCain

That’s the title of my precinct letter.

Yes, I’m running for Republican precinct committeeman again in Algonquin Township precinct 7. I’m tired of having an appointed absentee committeeman.

Here’s what I wrote under the headline above:

You know pretty much about presidential politics as I.

But last February I got to ask John McCain if he would keep Patrick Fitzgerald as U.S. Attorney.

McCain answered, “Yes.”

In November John Kass wrote,

“Mitt Romney, on the other hand, has made no secret of his desire to dump Fitzgerald.”

If prosecuting corruption in Illinois is important to you, this might interest you.

While reading Dan Zanoza’s column in Republicans for a Free Media, I see that he largely agrees with me.

He writes a balanced column wondering why Mitt Romney “took the bait.”

Here’s a wonderful paragraph:

“The only problem is most Illinois residents think Patrick Fitzgerald has done an excellent job as U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. I guess, that is, everyone except people like former Illinois Governor George Ryan is sitting in a Wisconsin federal prison at this moment. And there are other big fish in Fitzgerald’s frying pan of justice who are just about ready to be served up for prosecution. Romney, however, took the bait of Fitzgerald’s detractors and has intimated he would fire the well-respected prosecutor–if he were elected president.“

I just love the phrase,

“frying pan of justice”

To be fair, I don’t know what Ron Paul or Mike Huckabee would do.

I do know that honest government is an urgent need in Illinois.

I know that Patrick Fitzgerald is the Elliot Ness of our time.

And, I know he has not finished his work.

He hasn’t gotten to McHenry County, for instance.

I took the picture of John McCain the day I asked him if he would retain Patrick Fitzgerald as U.S. Attorney. The picture of Romney is from his campaign web site.
