Design Flaw at Ackman and Lakewood Roads?

I drove to pick up one of my son’s friends Sunday afternoon.

The route took me west on Ackman Road, then south on Lakewood Road.

Imagine my surprise when I saw a sign saying there was water on the highway.

Why was I surprised?

This is a brand new intersection.

On the northeast corner those turning right have to plow through a couple of inches of water.

What is that all about?

Did the engineering firm that designed the road improvement make a mistake?

Or did the construction firm fail to follow directions?

Roads should drain, shouldn’t they?

In any event, I think it is time to call whatever the county highway engineer is now called and ask some questions.

Maybe a county board member will beat me to it after he/she sees these photographs.

There is also water on the south side of Rakow Road right before Route 31 next to the Barn Nursery.

In the picture with the warning sign on Lakewood Road, note that there are two 4 by 8 election signs still up. Click on the image to make them big enough to see. They are in the upper left hand corner of the picture.

One is for McHenry County Auditor Pam Palmer. The other supports unsuccessful McHenry County State’s Attorney candidate Dan Regna. I guess I’ll ask if they were posted on the public right-of-way.

And, if so, why the county highway department did not insist they be removed as soon as they were put up.
