"Vulcan Lakes: Sell It, Fill It In," says John Coonen

Crystal Laker John Coonen has two solutions of what to do with Vulcan Lakes. They follow:

I HAVE TWO ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS:

1. SELL THE PROPERTY, make it taxable, and collect property taxes on it.

2. FILL IN VULCAN LAKE so it does not pose a costly erosion risk to Pingree Road, nor evaporate much-needed H20 in this county, nor affect the water table of Crystal Lake; then SELL THE PROPERTY, making it taxable, and collect property taxes on it.

It is ABSOLUTELY IRRESPONSIBLE to increase sales taxes and burden the people living and shopping in Crystal Lake with more government overhead costs!

Even if the current Chamber of Commerce head sponsors an increase in sales taxes, the BUSINESS COMMUNITY is not nearly as affected as the citizens who shop in the area.

This is NOT a needed infrastructure improvement. This very costly project DISTRACTS elected leaders and staff from their primary responsibilities.

Homeowners and consumers are tightening their belts right now; to raise taxes will further depress an already hurting local retail economy in the short-run; and in the long-run, additional taxes will not make the economy grow.

SELL IT!

By letting the FREE MARKET drive this process, while collecting new incremental property taxes, just like other private properties, the CITIZENS will be FAR BETTER SERVED.

  1. Does anyone know if the Vulcan Lake proposed development includes residential units? If so how many?
If residential units are to be developed has anyone consider Central High School renovations in anticipation of family residential units.

Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just install park benches (like the Hollows) and enjoy the lake for what it is…which is a lake?

I am disappointed with the proposed amusement park and as a nearby resident I personally would like to have access to a lake as promised over 10 years ago. Is that too much to ask?

    Wouldn’t
