District 158 Strike – Maybe “Yes” and Maybe “No”

A 9 PM note from the Huntley School District:Date:

September 14, 2008

From: Superintendent, Dr. John D. Burkey

Re: Negotiations

As of 9:00 p.m., we still cannot provide definitive information on the status of school tomorrow, September 15, 2008. Both the Board of Education and the teachers’ union are continuing to work diligently towards a settlement, and we remain hopeful of a positive outcome before the night is over.

In the interest of not disturbing families with continued phone calls at this late hour, this will be the last instant alert for this evening. We will notify you, one way or the other, of the status of school by 5:30 a.m. through Instant Alert. We will however, continue to post information on the District’s website as it becomes available, so please check there for continued updates.

I assume the Huntley School District has a notification system for things like snow days similar to that of Crystal Lake Grade School District 47. Phone calls and/or emails.

District 158 Strike – Maybe “Yes” and Maybe “No” — 2 Comments

  1. I don’t understand why at a time when our economy is bad, how teachers who already make a very good living have to strike! Some even drive porches and such. Look in the parking lot sometime or ask some of them where they live. We have passed every referendum the district has wanted, How many teachers have such nice schools and work places to go too? I for one am against one dime more until the economy is better!

  2. I am a union construction worker who supports the teachers right to a fair contract. I think it is even more appropriate when you look at other comments and see someone who is less educated with nothing good to say. In my part of Huntley, all the porches stay attached to our houses, not in the schools parking lot. This is a very good example of a desperate need for good teachers in Huntley.
