Round orange marks have shown up on some Nash Road trees in Crystal Lake.

Noticed by my intrepid camerawoman, the tree spots raised questions.

Were they marked for removal?

The trees appear to be silver maples.

Neither of us had heard of any disease killing them.

The spots spurred a call to city hall.

Mine wasn’t the first inquiry.

The short answer is that city hall does not know why the orange spots are on the trees.

Maybe they are a Halloween trick.
