Like Son, Like Father

Showing a different side of himself last Sunday morning at the 11 o’clock service at the First United Methodist Church of Crystal Lake, Brian Morrow took part in a skit with a teen.

The pretend son asked his “father” for $25.

The father demurred.

The son tried to tempt the father.

He offered to clean his room, take out the garbage and wash the car every week…for the rest of his life.

The son leaves the stage.

The father finishes his Bible study and starts praying.

It doesn’t take long until the father is praying for help in getting a promotion that will being a higher salary.

And what inducement does the father offer God?

More money for church.

Maybe even start tithing.

As the skit ended, the point was clear:

Adults act like kids when they pray.

After being warmed up, the congregation heard a song on the topic of prayer.

Then Pastor Darneather Murph-Heath addressed the question

Why Doesn’t god Answer My Prayers?

Next weekend Pastor Steve Bullmer will answer the question,

What Is Heaven Like and Is There a Hell?

Services are at 5 on Saturday afternoon, 8, 9:30 and 11 Sunday morning. The 11 o’clock service is the most contemporary, the one we attend.
