While writing the article about McHenry County dry cleaners with pollution problems, I called the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to find out what was happening with the most polluted site in McHenry County.

It’s in Downtown Crystal Lake–One Hour Crystal Cleaners.

Here is the reply that I received from Maggie Carson, the EPA’s Communication Manager:

There has not yet been any remediation at this site. According to the consultant, they are waiting for funding from the Drycleaner Fund to initiate remediation. Nor has the Applicant submitted a remedial action plan to IEPA for any approval for this remediation.

Fortunately, it is not in Crystal Lake’s watershed.
