That Bright Light in the West at 10:05 Last Night

Photo of meteor taken by the University of Wisconsin - Madison, Department of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. It was caught by the AOS/SECC rooftop webcam. The spot of light in the upper left hand portion of the photo is apparently where the meteor starts on the film. See the link below for the whole show. Used with permission. Click to enlarge.

On the way home from school, my son told me he had seen a bright light out his western-facing bedroom window last night.

10:05 he told me the clock said.

What was it?

News reports indicate it was a meteor which broke up as it entered the earth’s atmosphere.

My son said he saw a piece break off from the main part.

Too bad I wasn’t looking in the same direction.
