Algonquin Bypass to Begin, Plus Route 14 Crystal Lake to Woodstock and Route 47 and Tollway Makeovers Set

$92 million is earmarked for the Algonquin Bypass. When first proposed it would have cost half that much.

IDOT visualization of the four-lane highway that will be built from Lily Pond Road to Route 176.

$63 million will be spent to make Route 14 four lanes all the way from Crystal Lake to Woodstock, where it will link up with the bypass constructed by Governor William Stratton while he was in office fifty-some years ago.

$16.6 million will go toward reconstructing the interchange at Route 47 and I-90 in Huntley, presumably to allow traffic to get on the Interstate going west to Rockford and to allow eastbound traffic to get off at Huntley.

This is part of a $12.8 billion highway program unveiled by Governor Pat Quinn yesterday.

  1. How can you by-pass Algonquin? It has been legendary the world over as the only village in the US not to be by-passed.

  2. Lilly Pond to Rt 176? What about Culvers to Lilly Pond?

So from Crystal Lake to Woodstock we will go from 4 lanes to 2 lanes [West of Lilly Pond] back to 4 lanes [just East of Culver’s] then back to 2 lanes [just West of Rt 14 & Rt47] into Harvard.

Will this be a mess or is that mentioned stretch going to be taken care of by the ball field people? Confusing to say the least.

  3. The entire distance between Crystal Lake and Woodstock will be four lanes, as the article says. This is just an illustration of the part identified.

  4. Can our great politicians find a more useless construction projects to spend or money on? Are the big construction companies that get the state’s business and feed the campaign funds short on revenue?
