Ron Ally snagged a $180,000 job at Harper College.

The former McHenry County College finance guy, left to take the top finance job at Elgin Unit District 46.

There he was paid $189,000.

Ally made his last featured public appearance at McHenry County College explaining how finances were so bad that a tax hike was needed.

The year before he received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.

At MCC his salary was $141,437.

The Elgin school system is having major financial problems.

  1. I don’t know Mr. Ally, but I can tell you my opinion of why the finances of schools like MCC, Elgin D-46 and every other educational institution are so bad. Paying a finance guy $141,000-189,000 goes a long way to explaining the cause of financial problems of schools. And not just the finance guy. Look at the salaries of all the administrators and teachers.

    And the game of musical nametags on office doors? Ally left MCC, got a $45,000 boost in pay at Elgin, and then skips over the Harper.

    I’m reminded of the most-listened-to radio station in the land. WII-FM. (What’s In It For Me) What did Elgin D-46 get for its $189,000, while Ron Ally was there for such a short time? I would hope that Elgin had paid such a salary with the expectation that he would stay for a while.
