Crystal Lake Home Near Central High School Yields 167 Pot Plants

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Department has issued the following press release:

Crystal Lake Grow House Arrest Results in 167 Cannabis Sativa Plants Seized

Sheriff Keith Nygren announced today the arrest of a Crystal Lake resident for operation of an indoor clandestine cannabis growing lab.

On April 1, 2010 members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit served a search warrant in the 100 block of Rosedale Dr. Crystal Lake, Illinois.

A Canine Officer from the Crystal Lake Police Department responded at the request of the Sheriff’s Office to assist investigators.

At the completion of the search, investigators recovered over 1,400 grams of processed Cannabis along with one hundred sixty seven actively growing cannabis sativa plants, along with nutrients, lights, ballasts, water pumps and exhaust tubing used to cultivate the Cannabis.

Sheriff Nygren estimates the street value of the seized cannabis to be in excess of $23,700.

The investigation culminated in the arrest of Vitaly Reider on 05/05/2010 who is incarcerated in the McHenry County Adult Corrections Facility in lieu of $40,000 bond.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has also issued an arrest warrant for Melissa Reider, wife of Vitaly Reider, who is alleged to have been involved in the indoor clandestine cannabis growing lab.

The charges against the individuals are merely allegations against them. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in the court of law.

It should be noted that usually the Sheriff’s Department does not operate within municipalities with police departments.

Three days ago a similar indoor pot farm was busted by the Sheriff’s Department in Ringwood.
