Grafton Township Officials Can’t Agree…Again

The following is from notes from someone who attended the Grafton Township meeting(s) Thursday night.

At Thursday night’s Grafton Township meeting to review Road Commissioner Jack Freund’s budget everything was peaceful.

The second meeting was the regular monthly meeting. It was adjourned less than fifteen minutes after it started. The vote was 3-2 with Barb Murphy and Moore voted in opposition.

When Supervisor Linda Moore called for public comments, Trustees objected. The complaint that wasn’t on the agenda.

Apparently there were dueling agendas.

And, the Trustees didn’t want to combine the agendas.

So, the meeting was adjourned.

I’m not expert in township law, but it seems to me that a budget hearing is probably a legal requirement to be able to levy taxes.

And, my guess is that public comment is a requirement, not an option.

Grafton Township Officials Can’t Agree…Again — 25 Comments

  1. I would say that you’re correct on both statements. However, I would have called for public comments during the budget meeting prior to it being ended by vote. Same would seem to apply to the regular meeting. Not sure about a requirement for comments tho. Since they can’t get along in court either, this was a forgone ending.

  2. Dueling agendas as in each “side” created an agenda. Everything is still tied up in court. Business needed to be taken care of. More time was blown out for nothing.

And offer of cooperation from Moore’s side was made to do everything on both agendas. The Trustees said No and took their ball and bat and went home. Essentially, no temporary truce to just get business done.

  3. Read accounts of last night’s meeting at w.huntleyneighbors(dot)com and w.firstelectricnewspaper(dot)com; Looks like Linda WILL NOTwork with the new clerk (any surprises here? Linda will not work with anyone). It’s Linda’s way OR NO WAY!

  4. The vote was 4-1 … as usual.

I agree with you, Moore is less!, it is absolutely Linda’s way or no way. Why does she think that she can bring a 2nd agenda to a meeting? Oh, that’s right, because she thinks that she can do what she wants, whenever she wants.

The township will suffer until she is out. Plain and simple.

  5. Perhaps the Clerk is stuck between dueling sides and has chosen one side over the other?

No side had to “win” last night, all they had to do was get business done.

The LOGICAL way right now was to combine both agendas, grit their teeth and move on instead of staging an adjournment walkout. They don’t have to like each other and they don’t have to agree on everything.

The Ancil Glink lawyer was at the meeting that didn’t happen. She/Ancil Glink will probably still bill just for showing up and traveling time. I know I would. If anyone thinks that you need your lawyer present at every meeting for a govt. entity of this type, perhaps we should just send our taxes to Ancil Glink?

It’s only a short time until the judge weighs in.

  6. Someone please stop the spinning. I’m getting dizzy. The smoke screens aren’t helping either.

  7. Linda’s personal GA assistant, TJ must really need the money. That must be a tough gig.

  8. For Dee,

Are you now suggesting that new clerk is not doing her job in an unbiased manner?

  9. So it would seem that whoever does not agree with Linda and her antics is percieved, by her, as out of order?!

THIS IS NOT A DICTATORSHIP LINDA. No one person should EVER have so much power. The President of the United States can’t pass a bill simply because he thinks it should be passed. There is a process in place so we ALL get a change to VOICE our opinions. Does that mean we get everything we want? Absolutely not. Does it mean we get some things we want? Maybe. You don’t hear him calling people out of order because they don’t agree.

Where is your American spirit Linda? I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. But still I wait for something positive from you….and nothing. And I since I don’t agree with you, I guess I’m OUT OF ORDER.

I can tell you this…..You will NOT get my vote at the next election. And I will do everything within my power to make sure everyone I come across within Grafton Township knows of your behavior. You may have started this fight, Linda, but WE THE PEOPLE will finish it at the voting booth.

  10. (b) Upon the request of the supervisor or of any 2 board members, the township clerk shall call a meeting at the time requested and shall furnish to the board members at least 48 hours’ notice of the meeting.

  11. Apparently I wasn’t clear with my question Dee….

Are you trying to say that you believe the new clerk is not doing her job to the capacity that is stated in her job description? Don’t hide behind some long winded response meant to confuse the question. Call a spade, a spade for once. Yes or no; are you insinuating that the clerk is “choosing sides” and not doing her job properly?

  12. “Perhaps the Clerk is stuck between dueling sides and has chosen one side over the other?” – note the question mark. This is a question. Only the Clerk knows the answer to that question. Maybe the Clerk is aware of a law that determined what she did or did not do. You seem to be insinuating I said that the Clerk isn’t doing her job properly. We both know that’s not what I said.

You were clear with your question. I gave you an answer you didn’t like. I have no control over that.

What does the above code say? Is it applicable?

  13. I’m just wondering why my previous post has not been made available for everyone to view. Is someone biased?

  14. “For Dee’s” comments read a lot like “Cassandra” on the Daily Herald and “Aileen” on Huntley Neighbors. Makes you go “Humm!”

  15. I don’t understand what the code you posted has to do with questioning if the clerk is picking sides. The code you posted is about calling a meeting. The problem last night was apparently about conflicting agendas, not calling meetings (unless you know something we don’t) so what does one have to do with the other.

You did not answer my question, you stated irrelevant code. And I quested you to clarify what I thought you were saying, so I wasn’t putting words in your mouth.

  16. Still wondering why my previous posts have not been approved. Total and complete bias perhaps?

  17. You know what. Don’t worry about it. That’s the beauty of the internet. Bad publicity travels fast ONLINE and there are many other avenues I can use. But you already know that don’t you, Cal. I’ll get the word out. You can count on it.

  18. Has anyone ever told you that withholding some of the truth to make a story sound better is the same as telling a lie?

  19. So it would seem that whoever does not agree with Linda and her antics is perceived, by her, as out of order?!

  23. I don’t care who votes for who in the next election. I would consider voting the thought of township government out since I am seeing township government in Grafton as obsolete. This is a BROKEN MIRROR and we can’t afford another 7 yrs taxes to pay for this mess. When the people begin to realize that we are paying for elected officials arrogance through the court system maybe there will be some change. Why have we not been able to unwind the land purchase yet? Where did the will of the people go? I heard testimony from the waning side claim that fairness and democracy was ill served at the 4/13 meeting. Yet today the majority waits for satisfation. This is beyond hope…….

  24. Cal,

What do we have to do to eliminate township government in Grafton? Let me know some strategies…

  25. thorsen cant’ afford the $35 bucks he pays to Grafton. We should all pitch in to buy him a tiny violin so he can continue to play his tired old song 🙂
