Another Suicide by Train, This Time in Barrington

One of the comments under the Daily Herald article on a 17-year old boy’s train suicide near the Barrington High School yesterday morning follows:

“Looks like Phil Pagano started a new trend.”

Readers didn’t think it was appropriate, turning enough thumbs down to make me click to be able to read it.

Of course, there is no way to know whether the widely publicized suicide of Crystal Lake’s Pagano led the high school senior to his death, but it certainly might have.

One can say with great certainty that Pagano’s exit from this life did nothing to deter suicide on a train track.

Unlike Pagano, whom media reports took pains to point out decided to step in front of the last train to Chicago, the teenager killed himself about 6AM, causing huge delays for commuters.

Deanna Griffin, who chairs an ant-teen suicide group called HERE in Barrington is quoted as saying, Teens “are learning, in a tough way, that looking after one another is important.”

In other Metra news, the RTA Board is scheduled to select a replacement for Pagano today.

  1. “Of course, there is no way to know whether the widely publicized suicide of Crystal Lake’s Pagano led the high school senior to his death, but it certainly might have”

Since you helped publicize Pagano’s suicide, and every suicide by train since then, do you take your portion of blame in this young man’s tragic death?

  2. Cal – Your continued Phil Pagano “connection” to each suicide involving a train shows your insensitivity and meanness. I’m not surprised since your blog is becoming McHenry County’s version of the National Enquirer.

  3. My readership pales in comparison to the blanket coverage on Chicago television, radio and newspapers.

  4. Yea Cal, you need to comply with c.kay so you can ‘fit in’ with the ‘program’ in mchenry county… keep your mouth shut or else!!!

Yea C. Kay, the ONLY place you could ever find any story about Mr. Pagono’s fate was here on MCHenry County Blog…and Im certain the young man here, called cal just before taking his life so Cal could be the ONLY person to write about this..Your a ‘fkn idiot’ C. Kay…

Now “HUSH” Cal Skinner………Like me, I’ve been ‘hushed’ for years..

Your day is coming McHenry County!!!

Dont ya just love those who READ THIS BLOG everyday, then trash it!!! Shut your mouth or start your own blog, or better yet, go get a job as a reporter for the local rag………C. Kay….

    C………………THIS!

  5. Cal – A man was hit by a Metra train in Elmwood Park this morning. Are you going to connect this horrible event to Phil Pagano?

  6. Cal, you claim that the publication of Pagano’s death may have led to this person’s death.

It doesn’t matter that you claim your readership pales in comparison. If you accuse the real media, you need to own up to your own implied guilt.

Either you are part of the problem, or you are part of the solution. In this case, you were part of the problem. You can’t have it both ways.

  7. Barrington has had 5 suicides in the last three years. Four of which walked in front of a commuter metra train. I highly doubt there is a correlation between Pagano and these horrific instances, especially since every victim was under the age of 18 and medicated for depression. The chances are slim.

  8. Phil Pagano, whoever that is, has absolutely nothing to do with the suicides here in Barrington. There have been atleast 7 suicides within the past 5 years or so, and another possible one that could have occured tonight. We need help and my friends and I are going to do all we can to turn this town around. My heart and well wishes go out to his family. Suicide is never the answer. There is so much more that life has to offer if you give it a chance.

  9. Has anyone here even once thought about what horror the family of this young teen must be going through right now? Can you just stop the bullcrap about the possible connections and pray for these people whose lives have been turned upside down? Where is the compassion here? Are we all just robots in this day and age now that we can’t remember that we are still human beings that have feelings? May God grant peace on the soul of this young man and for his family as they try to move on from this tragedy.
