Petitions Available for City Council, Village Board, Etc., Today

Naperville's web site tells citizens they can run for office.

I thought I had heard that petitions had to be made available for city and village office Tuesday, but when I went to Crystal Lake’s web site, I couldn’t find a word.

Nothing on the McHenry, Woodstock, Huntley or Algonquin web sites that I could find either.

Perhaps folks living in those municipalities will call city hall and ask why not.

In McHenry’s case, a suspicious type might guess it was because the aldermen just raised city sales taxes 50%.

Contrast that to the front page of the Naperville web site.

Municipal Election Petitions for Candidacy Available

Tuesday, August 24 Filing Period Begins November 15

NAPERVILLE, Ill.— Beginning Tuesday, August 24, 2010, petitions for candidacy for the 2011 Naperville municipal election will be available in the City Clerk’s Office at the Municipal Center, 400 S. Eagle St. Expiring positions include one four-year position for Mayor and four four-year positions for Councilman. To qualify as a candidate you must be a registered voter of the City of Naperville and have resided within the corporate limits of the city for at least one year.

Petitions for nomination are filed with the City Clerk’s Office. The filing period will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2010, through Monday, November 22, 2010, excluding weekend days.

A Consolidated Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, if more than four candidates file for any one office. The Consolidated General Election will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.

  1. I just looked and Crystal Lake does have a link up now which provides details on filing.
