Did League of Women Voters Blow Its Cover?

Most of audience stands for the Pledge of Allegiance, which was not on the League of Women Voters' agenda. The moderator for the League of Women Voters said for audience members to "stand up in presumably a planned way..seems a bit disrespectful." The videographer was escorted out just as Joe Walsh began speaking. The rules prohibited recording the event.

League of Women Voters Illinois Executive Director Jan Czarnik is quoted in the Daily Herald today as saying she and Grayslake 8th Congressional District forum moderator Kathy Tate-Bradish’ have received death threats.

What probably triggered the entirely inappropriate response of the Leagues format of the event, which featured

  • Republican Joe Walsh,
  • Democrat Melissa Bean and
  • Green Party member Bill Scheurer,

was Czarnik’s labeling Air Force Veteran Joe Ptak’s request that the program begin with the Pledge of Allegiance as “phony patriotism.”

It is unknown whether Czarnik has served her country in the Armed Forces.

“When we host a political forum, we are scrupulously fair to each party,” Tate-Bradish, a strong supporter of President Barack Obama, told the Daily Herald.

  1. Czarnik’s “phony patriotism” claim is a great insult to the nation, the Flag, the veterans, Joe Ptak, and to all of us who honor the Flag of Our Country. Maybe Czarnik would be happier in one of the Russian countries or Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea or China. The women of the League of Women Voters of this country should toss her out on her butt. Czarnik is a disgrace to the U.S.A.

How could Tate-Bradish, even under the greatest stretch of imagination, consider interrupting her to recite the Pledge of Allegiance as a sign of disrespect?

As Joyce Shaffer sings in her album, Takin’ Back our Country, “Let us help you pack.”

No wonder my Republican parents referred to the LWV in the 1950s as the “League of Lady Bootleggers”!

  2. If the moderator had simply said “Okay, let’s do the pledge.” there wouldn’t be a story. It also would have taken less time and created less animosity than what did happen.

If the moderator had simply started the debate after the audience rose up and did the pledge, there would be a lesser story and less animosity than what happened.

She chose to treat the audience like they weren’t little kids, scolding them or lecturing them.

She was not happy about what had happened and said she hoped it was the last time that SHE would be disrespected.

The audience didn’t like her attitude and the focus on herself. Hence, the bigger story.

    Is she happy now?

  3. My bigger concern was that LWV woman assumed that it was a Walsh supporter who insisted on doing the pledge-why wouldn’t she assume it was a Bean supporter? Was LWV already showing their support for Bean as a candidate by saying that it was a Walsh ploy to garner attention? I don’t believe either Walsh or Bean need any more attention-they both get enough by displaying their actions. Once again, Illinois is shown to be the Nation’s Joke State.

  4. Below this piece is another which includes ” You Can Stand Me Up at the Gates of Hell, But I Won’t Back Down ” in the Title.

Maybe these should be the words Americans use when the flag is ignored and when America’s People/Freedoms are ignored or taken advantage of by Politicians who want to “fundamentally transform” (wow, that sounds soooo benign doesn’t it) the country into the very thing so many run from in their own declining/imploding countries.

“You can stand me up at the Gates of Hello, but, I won’t back down.”

America needs her every day heroes to protect her and her People from the dismissive, condescending, patronizing, elitist, self-appointed know-it-all intellectuals. They aren’t redistributing all of their personal wealth. They want to redistribute YOUR wealth and spread the social concepts that they know eventually fail.

  5. Do you really believe those “lefties” claims? They just couldn’t take the criticism from Glenn Beck.

The organization is going down the tubes. Barrington LWV is folding, due to the lack of interest. What a bunch of losers

  6. FOX news is running an ad and it is so true. Blue in the face from talking Red with anger over issues you the colors that unite all of us are Red, White and Blue.

While we may disagree on many things MOST OF US are American AND WANT
WHAT IS BEST FOR THE COUNTRY BUT WE DISAGREE ON HOW
