Joe Walsh Featured in CBS Story about Congressmen Sleeping in Offices

Joe Walsh is one of the three freshmen congressmen featured in the CBS story.

Congressman Joe Walsh got significant national television coverage in a CBS News story about members of the U.S. House who sleep in their offices.

His decision was at the beginning and near the end of the two minute, seventeen second story.

Joe Walsh was interviewed by Wyatt Andrew.

One-fifth of the House freshmen are sleeping in their offices, reports CBS correspondence Wyatt Andrews said.

Here’s the verbiage concerning the McHenry Congressman:

“I think it’s important that we show we don’t live here, we are not creatures of this town,” Walsh told us.

Part of the interview had Joe Walsh walking through his office.

“There’s so much to do the next two years, I don’t want to be distracted with another place. I don’t want to have to think about an apartment.”

Walsh, Walberg and nearly two dozen of their colleagues are part of a trend that may have reached a historic high point.

Joe Walsh is seen eating breakfast at his desk.

“I don’t want to live in this town. I want to be home all the time,” Rep. Walsh said.

Besides what the story reported, there is a money angle that CBS didn’t mention.

While one new congressman mentioned he estimated that he would save about $20,000 a year, I recently learned that our United States representatives don’t get a housing/living allowance.

Illinois legislators do.

It has been pegged at whatever away from home business travelers are allowed to spend under the IRS code.

Having to pay for two households has been mentioned, but I certainly did not know that the DC expenses had to come out of congressmen’s salaries.

You might think that congressional offices would have showers, but for at least freshmen, they don’t. The men shower in the House gym.

  1. This is just the CBS story, Cal, not a video of the men showering in the House gym. Color me disappointed.

  2. I expected the shower room, too, Cal. And I expect Rep. Walsh to rent an apartment and NOT live out of his office! For crying out loud, it is a business office!!! Joe, go get an apartment!

  3. I disagree-way to go Joe!

His fiscal responisibality (sp) in not spending money JUST because he can is refreshing.

Our governor should take a lesson; our state isn’t flush with money. That’s why we hired Quinn again-to keep us that way-flushed (as in down the toilet)

  4. What a classless and useless congressman. To cheep to use the money he makes to rent even a room somewhere. So he spends his nights in the office living on the people’s money. It’s our tax dollars that pay for the additional electricity and heat and even the water for his sink baths. Grow up Joe.

  5. So, Walsh finally decides that he’s going to be fiscally responsible and not spend money by renting a room somewhere?

It’s probably because nobody will let him sign a contract because of his horrible credit. It wouldn’t surprise me to see his wages garnished after all of the money he owes people. This guy is a total buffoon.

  6. Congressman getting public housing assistance by force. They should not be allowed to live there. It increases the risk of damage and cost to taxpayers. Either that or pay rent.

I think I’ll stop i and stay there in the Massachusetts Congressmans office when I’m in town. It appears its free………See you soon bunkies…….
