I recently asked the question through a Freedom of Information request about who those non-Sheriff Department county employees are provided vehicles they take home.

What McHenry County Employees Can Take Their Vehicles Home? — 10 Comments

  1. Interesting to see a politically connected part time employee who works on average less that 15 hours a week on the take home car list.

  2. I do not know about the others but EMA directors respond frequently
at all hours from any place they are. Radio contact and fast response
has been required in the 25 years I have had direct knowledge

  3. I love it. Ron Salgado, Richard Vance both retired deputies and forbidden from working more than 600 hours without losing their pensions have take home cars. Where do I sign up to get a free ride for working less than 600 hours? I also understand Salgado make $50.00 an hour to make it worth his while to show up. Do we know how to spell SCAM.

Elsworth lives in Belvidere. We provide him a free ride back and forth to work for a do nothing job?

Why isn’t the take home car for the County administrator listed? Did they withhold that? This is not a complete list. You were scammed. He gets a car.

Many are trucks in the Highway department and get called out to put up knocked down signs and put up barricades. Maybe it should specify TYPE of vehicle

  4. That is obviously not the entire list. It looks like employees are driving cars home that are not authorized. Where are the bosses and who allows this? For instance the building inspectors take vehicles home. Do they claim it on taxes?

I can understand police having take home cars and I personally like that idea, but why does a person in the health dept or building inspection capacity need it?

  5. Are there any employees that don’t have a vehicle? How about a in-depth report that looks at how many of the county employees claim this “benefit” on their income tax? Interesting….

Better yet, take away the free county vehicles and give them a mileage allowance for the use of their personal vehicle when performing county business. With the cost of gasoline these days this is a real money saver. Watch the number of employees that “need a vehicle” to go to and from work go way down! This is a “sure way” to cut costs.

Maybe another special investigation on the use of public vehicles for private use is necessary for ALL county vehicles.

  6. The idea of a mileage allowance would have people lining their pockets with money.

It is hard to take a company vehicle out side of the county with family members for an outing. But just give them money for mileage and watch the number of miles and the payouts climb.

It would seem that the employees get taxed on mileage to and from work. Belvidere to Woodstock and back and gets paid $50 an hour at part time. That is a real income to that person and he should be taxed on those miles. Hey tipsters. the IRS pays 10% finders fees for tax fraud.

It’s called managemant, and making people responsible for what they do. Terminate one or two employees for false reporting and that hekps keep the honest people honest. The dishonest people will always be out there no matter what you do.
