Factoid Concerning Cary Grade School District 26 Teachers

A "Vote Yes for Referendum" sign.

A friend of McHenry County Blog suggested readers might find it instructive to learn the number of teachers who live within the Cary Grade School District boundaries compared to those who live out of district.

A Freedom of Information request has found that of the 156 members of the Cary Education Association, 68 live in District 26, while 88 don’t.

That means over 56% live outside district boundaries and therefore don’t pay taxes imposed by the Cary Grade School Board.

  1. Compare that to other districts, though. When I was in HS, only a handful of teachers lived in town.

  2. Yeah, well, when the Village of Cary starts requiring that it’s Administrator, assistant administrator, development director, etc. live in the Village, then I’ll care.

At the moment they all take the train out each morning from Chicago and ride back together at the end of the day.

Oh, and to boot, the Village gives the administrator an auto allowance for his ‘chicago only’ car, and a free village car at this end that he parks, for free, overnight at the metra station.
