$1.1 Million Goes for Union Dues in District 300

With all the fuss in Wisconsin concerning what Democrats call “union busting” legislation, I thought it might be interesting to see what’s at stake.

Under one proposal of Republican Governor Scott Walker, public employee union officials (excluding police and fire personnel, as I understand the bill) would have to collect their own dues.

No more getting a check every pay period from a school district.

I asked the largest school district operating in McHenry County how much was paid to its various unions last year.

Carpentersville Unit District 300 said it was $1,122,392.  in 2009-10 there were 1,997 employees who were union members.

No wonder union officials are so strongly opposed to this proposal of Governor Walker.

Imagine how much more difficult it would be to convince all the union employees to authorize automatic deductions from their checking accounts.

The job of shop steward or whatever such officials are called in teacher unions would not be a pleasant one.

  1. Thereby defining what “Collective Bargaining” truly means to the powerful and connected.

This is NOT an argument about the rights of the employee to reasonable recompense for their efforts.

This is an argument over whether those self same well intentioned employees actually have a choice of how their money is spent or whether the powerful elite simply get to fleece them to promote agendas through public unions which may or may not serve the paying constituencies.

Way to follow the money and share this part of the truth.

Now share who the largest beneficiaries of the unions disabusing children, taxpayers, parents and teachers may, in fact, truly be.

While the powers that be abuse union members to promote this current disruption of the school systems if people aren’t educated in how to follow the money, rather than the rhetoric, this will be repeated across all sectors of our society.

I HATE when the powerful harm The People in their unending pursuit of more power and more money. Unions must be stopped.

  2. Remember, it’s for the kids. The will never see that $1.1 Million, but somehow it’s for the kids?

  3. So the teachers are paying over $2.6 million over 3 years for a couple of state union officials to come in and help negotiate their contract?

They would be a lot smarter to separate from the state and national unions and hire whatever legal services they need during the 3 years and save an easy million and a half.

This would, however, require some common sense and a clue about economics.
