Convict Accused of Solicitating Sex from 13-Year Old Girl

On May 7th, 2010, Mark S. Seranella, was arrested for one count of Drug Induced Homicide for his role in the death of Ryan Maxwell, an 18 year old Crystal Lake resident who had succumbed to a lethal ingestion of heroin. (Story here.)

Seranella pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of Involuntary Man Slaughter and was remanded to the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) for a term of 4 years.

During his incarceration at the McHenry County Jail, Crystal Lake Police Investigators continued their investigation into the criminal activities of Mark S. Seranella.

During the subsequent investigation it was determined that Seranella was engaging in explicit sexual conversations with a female subject that was later identified to be a thirteen year old juvenile.

The conversations revealed that Seranella and the thirteen year old had engaged in sex acts prior to his incarceration and that on at least five separate occasions he (Seranella) had solicited the juvenile to perform sex acts with him upon his release.

The evidence secured during the course of the investigation was reviewed by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office and five counts of Indecent Solicitation of a Child (Class 3 Felonies) were authorized against Mark S. Seranella.

Working in conjunction with the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office;
investigators filed criminal complaints with the McHenry County Circuit Clerks office on February 28th, 2011.

Seranella is waiting to be officially served with these charges and will have to be remanded from the Illinois Department of Corrections at Logan Correctional Center where he is currently incarcerated.

His scheduled appearance before the court in regard to these charges is April 25th, 2011 at 9:00 am.
