Another $5,000 in Legal Fees in Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Schenkert’s Wrongful Termination Case, $36,000 So Far, But No Back Pay for Deputy Yet

The man has been back at work for almost a year and still there is no settlement in the case won by Deputy Sheriff Bob Schlenkert.

An extra over $5,000 has been billed by McHenry County contract attorneys in the Bob Schlenkert case. The total is for legal fees. Expenses are extra and show below on this spreadsheet.

When one adds the $4,845 in legal fees to $791.05 in expenses, the total charged county taxpayers for the last month’s work on the case is approaching $6,000.

That’s on top of the $31,000 reported February 11th.

The total is now $36,908, about $22,000 of which has been billed after the Appellate Court decision that sent Schlenkert back to work at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.

But no money has been paid to Schlenkert for back pay or legal fees.

He’s owed about two and a half year’s back salary, plus interest.  At some $80,000 a year, that will cost county taxpayers probably something close to $300,000.

The end of this month it will have been a year since Schlenkert beat Sheriff Keith Nygren in the Appellate Court, about a month later than my article in February.

  1. Sad how hard working deputies that show up to work everyday just get a regular paychecks while some that have abused the system, use every day of sick time each year, constantly break work rules, get suspended and refuse to do even minimal work end up getting BONUS checks when as Cal calls it “BEAT” Nygren in court.

This is an example of UNIONS defending the non workers.

  2. The County Board should be ashamed for not paying the guy and abusing the system.

You can bet it wouldn’t be taking this long if it was a relative of Ken Koehler, Barb Wheeler or Tina Hill.

It may take Virginia Peschke to help the whole board find a spine and do the right thing.
