Today is Thursday, Huntley School District Says

The top of the District 158 Agenda says that May 2nd is Thursday.

Headings on all three pages of what is, I presume, tonight’s swearing in ceremony for the Huntley School Board are labeled “Thursday, May 2, 2011.”

Mistakes happen, but I wonder if this one means tonight’s meeting will not meet the notice requirements of the Open Meetings Act.

  1. It may be expecting too much if parents expect a Superintendent or administrator to match up the day of the week with the date of the week on an official publication.

Anyone know why no administrator took the time to write or see how one day of the week doesn’t match up with the date?

  2. Seriously, this was worth the blog entry today? Must be a slow news day….

  3. Bye bye Aileen. Don’t let the door hit you in the *ss!!!

  4. My district is also swearing in the elected board members today. No idea why Monday May 2nd is such a popular day to swear in board members.

Let’s see, schools receive the majority of our property tax money. Not to mention additional state income tax and federal income tax dollars. Schools give their retiring teachers and administrators 6% annual pay increases, the last 4 years of their careers, for a 24% pay increase. I applaud the scrutiny of school board activities. In fact, I don’t think school boards are scrutinized enough.

  5. Dear Sunshine; Should a school administrator be educated enough to know how to compare day of week with date of the week in a district’s formal public announcement?

Or did they learn education to know getting their pay raises and pay benefits have nothing to do with getting their job done the right way?

  6. I was told last night, that in our district new school board officers are to be sworn in within 7 days of election results being certified.

By the way, Education Reform (Senate Bill 7) has been approved by the Illinois Senate and now sits in the House of Representatives.

You can read the proposed SB 7 here.

You can see the legislative history, current status, sponsors, and all sorts of other details here.

Amongst other items, the SB 7 includes lots of detailed language and procedures on how to dismiss poor performing teachers. Compared to the at-will rights of non union employees who can be fired for any reason or no reason at all, it will still take a tremendous amount of time to remove a teacher even if this bill gets enacted as is.

  7. “Or did they learn education to know getting their pay raises and pay benefits have nothing to do with getting their job done the right way?”

Hello Pot, this is the Kettle calling….

Your grammar leaves much to be be desired. Such a silly article in my opinion. People make mistakes, it’s part of being human. When we stop making mistakes ourselves, then maybe we should start to scrutinize others for their small errors. Until we are perfect, maybe we should accept minor mistakes as just that, mistakes.
