Grafton Township Lawyer Bills Continue to Mount

Complaints have been made about Grafton Township Supervisor Linda Moore’s attorney John Nelson’s charging $250 per hour.

That’s more than the $185 per hour that Keri-Lyn Krafthefer charged before she was dismissed by a court order from McHenry County Circuit Court Judge Michael Caldwell.

Since Moore’s attorney has won most of the skirmishes and certainly the major points of contention, some might argue that even with his higher hourly rate, Nelson is a better buy than Ancel Glink’s attorneys.

Today, let’s look at the latest bills from both firms.

First, here’s the last three-page bill from Ancel Glink. It totals $10,438.

The billing cycles are different for John Nelson. Below you see two months’ bills, which total $5,070.65. That’s about half as much as Ancel Glink billed for one month.  Click on any image to enlarge it.

It may interest some to learn that Krafthefer, no longer township attorney, billed $6,197.50–more in one month than Nelson did in two.
I note that Nelson bills in tenths of an hour, while Ancel Glink seems to bill in quarter-hour segments.

  1. So how is it, Keri-Lyn Krafthefer’s attorneys get paid more, and the trustees are delighted to throw more money away?

It seems obvious that Keri-Lyn LOVES her scamming up a huge amount of money for her and other legal friends while insisting it is legal and her “right” thing to bilk taxpayers.

As long as she racked up a huge amount of money for herself, she likely didn’t care she proved she was glad to be a LOSER in her court business.

Having a C.P.A. as a trustee in Grafton shows THIS guy is a HUGE IDIOT throwing huge money at Keri-Lyn.

  2. Since the entire bill relates to the ongoing court case, none of this would have happened if Linda Moore hadn’t sued the trustees and just did her job! There are 14 line items regarding the lack of an audit and delinquent bills!

  3. Then how about the trustees approve the auditor on the fourth try tonight?
The only “deliquent bill” you refer to is Forensicon which is the trustees personal bill.

  4. “Since Moore’s attorney has won most of the skirmishes and certainly the major points of contention, some might argue that even with his higher hourly rate, Nelson is a better buy than Ancel Glink’s attorneys.” You write “some might argue” when you really mean you Cal and Linda Moore. Keep shilling for Mrs. Loser and her methods of bankrupting our township. Where is the audit Linda?

  5. You are way out of touch with the whole story “You May Want to Know”. Oh wait, you must be drinking the Kool Aid that Linda is serving up. Bottoms up!!!!

  6. Just think, if the Trustees weren’t upset that MULTIPLE CITIZENS sued and won in court and in appeals re the original multi-million billion dollar new building project – things might have been more pleasant and businesslike.

Just think if the Trustees weren’t upset that their preferred candidate for supervisor lost – things might have been more pleasant and businesslike.

Just think if the Trustees didn’t try to ? what did the judge say in the separation of powers case ? “usurp” – oh heck, let’s just call it go around the Supervisor they didn’t want elected – things might have been more pleasant and businesslike.

Just think if the Trustees only did what the law says was their job – things might have been more pleasant and businesslike.

Just think if the Trustees didn’t hire a costly full time employee to more or less do the Supervisor’s job – things might have been more pleasant. The judge found for the current’s Supervisor’s right to terminate this person even though the board kept the person on until the judge ruled.

Just think, there didn’t have to be any court cases if the previous board did what it was supposed to do in the first place.

There are no perfect people on the planet but let’s make sure we don’t skew everything against one person because a certain group has an agenda.

Of course the people who follow this saga know all of this – but keep trying to sell baloney.

Again, there are no perfect people and people often like to stick to the old way of doing things – quietly doing stuff that should probably be done more loudly so the public / taxpayers know, not letting (ex.) a Trustee be involved with working on anything financial, and so on.

Here’s hoping the loose ends get taken care of soon. One idea is to actually hire an auditor who is unbiased, proud of their record, and has done far bigger projects than Grafton’s.

  7. For what it’s worth, in my (P&C insurance) industry, the standard for more than 20 years is billing by the tenth of an hour. And we don’t accept the bills at face value, either. We often have put the same scrutiny to the bills that Mr. Skinner has.

  8. I never claimed that the trustees were innocent. Unfortunately, Linda set the tone for her “reign” by being party to a lawsuit against the trustees and township before she even took office. By doing this, she showed that she had no interest in actually working with the trustees to resolve the issues.

If she had just done her job, like paying the bills and performing the audit, most of this would be moot. If she had done her job, the trustees would never have considered hiring an administrator. If she had done her job, maybe we all would be in a better place.

  9. I plan to vote all incumbents out of office. The new kindergarten class can run the township more efficiently (granted with a few more swing-sets popping up).

  10. If every disagreement didn’t end with, “you’re in contempt of the judge’s orders”, “I will file a lawsuit”, or “see you in court”, maybe more could get accomplished. We won’t all share the same views all the time but we should at least be able to expect reasonable discussion, debate, and compromise.

Neither side of these lawsuits are innocent but by refusing to have logical discussions like an adult, Ms. Moore makes it impossible for anything to get done, unless she gets her own way. If it doesn’t go her way, she simply falls into the idea that she needs to go to court. There is a board of trustees and a supervisor to make sure that the residents are represented. It’s the whole idea of checks and balances which American democracy is supposed to be founded on. Unfortunately, some people are only happy with a dictatorship.

  11. These comments sound more personal in nature. Instead of trying to tear down people, let’s talk issues.

  12. dd- OK, I’ll start . . . Linda, let’s get an audit done asap and see what kind of steward you have been with OUR money.

  13. I heard the board approved the auditor, 2012 budget and $400,000 loan payment tonight.

  14. So is the auditor the best choice, or the lesser of the evils that Linda personally picked? Did the board have input on selecting the auditor, or did Linda threaten them with lawsuits and contempt charges like she did at the last meeting?

The governmental process and the series of checks and balances that is the basis for American government since our founding fathers has become a farce in this township. I have lost all faith in the government “closest to the people” and in our judicial system. This isn’t goverment of the people, by the people and for the people, this is government for those who have enough money to sue anyone who disagrees with them, sorry, those who have the TAXPAYERS to sue anyone who disagrees with them!
