Hungry McHenry County Republicans

I went to the Lake in the Hills Labor Day Weekend Festival parade Saturday morning. (Actually, I see it is called Summer Sunset Fest.)

There were so many politicians courting voters last year, I thought I’d see who thought it worthwhile to go in the year before partisan elections.

There will be another Labor Day before the fall elections, but this was it for those wishing to make an impression prior to the March primary balloting.

Only Republicans showed up to show the flag.

First in line was McHenry County State’s Attorney Lou Bianchi.

These young people were handing out good stuff to the kiids ahead of the convertible carrying Jean and Lou Bianchi.

Plenty of volunteers for him.

Adults handed booklets to adults.

First there were young people handing out candy.

Lou Bianchi, his wife Jean and a grandson rode in the light yellow convertible. At times he blew a police whistle.

Next came adults handing out a booklet of some kind, maybe a coloring book.

If people were looking at the back of the Lou Bianchi for State's Attorney entry, they would have seen his name on the back of the tee shirts volunteers were wearing.

One of the tee shirts had a different message on back–an anti-drug message.

The back of one tee shirt said, "TURN YOUR BACK ON DRUGS."

The next political entry was the Kurtzmobile.

Balanced on the front, Donna Kurtz was handing out candy, while her husband Paul concentrated on steering the Kurtzmobile. Notice the effects of the hot day.

Consisting of a bicycle with a seat on front and pulling a wagon with Donna Kurtz for County Board signs, the vehicle was a long way behind was preceded it.

The Kurtzmobile in its full glory.

People couldn’t see what the contraption was all about from the front because there was no sign.  From the side, however, the purpose was clear.

Next came a group supporting State Rep. Mike Tryon.

State Rep. Mike Tryon has a new banner. It says, "Building a Better Community," with his name on both end swith 64th District above. The number of the district is the current one. A change will be required because of redistricting.

Teens were handing out candy for the children.

One of the teens for Tryon was roller skating.

There was a convertible, but the State Representative was not in it.

The sun was bright in Lake in the Hills for the Labor Day Parade. This Mike Tryon volunteer was shading herself with a yard sign.

Tryon accomplished his purpose for the parade and that was maintaining name identification.

Next I recognized newly-appointed State Rep. Kent Gaffney.

State Rep. Kent Gaffney handing something out at the lake in the Hills Parade.

I didn’t see any signs with his name and I didn’t figure out what he was handing out.

I saw McHenry County Board member Tina Hill’s name on tee shirts so I started looking for her.

McHenry County Board member Tina Hill was opening a tub of Dubble Bubble when I got my only photo of her this year.

I found her in the back of a pick-up truck.  This year’s photo is not as good as last year’s.  I guess she was moving faster this year.

McHenry County Board member John Jung was the next politician I saw on Miller Road at Chadwick.

These two mororcycle partolmen from the Sheriff's Department were in the 2010 LITH parade.

Next I saw John Jung, the Vice Chairman of the McHenry County Board.

And, that was it for the partisan politicians.

There was no vehicle from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department.

Last year, there were

  • four motorcycles (two from the McHenry County Conservation District),
  • a convertible with Keith Nygren and his wife Marge,
  • a “Community Relations” SUV pulling
  • a “Crime Prevention” trailer.

No entry this year.

Neither was there any contingent from the McHenry County Democratic Party.

  1. We don’t need a Democratic Party in McHenry County, the Republicans are the spenders here.
